Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the corporation will be undergoing a name change as part of a larger rebranding.
Zuckerberg announced that the company will now be called Meta, though the social media app Facebook, as well as apps owned by the company such as Instagram and WhatsApp, will continue to hold their current names. At Facebook Connect, Zuckerberg stated, “Starting today, our company is now Meta… Now we have a new North Star to help bring the metaverse to life, and we have a new name that reflects the full breadth of what we do and the future that we want to help build. From now on, we’re going to be metaverse first, not Facebook first.”
