Superman is DC‘s undisputed greatest hero and possibly the greatest hero in all of comics. Superman has saved the world more times than any other hero, both on his own or with teams, and is the greatest role model in the DC Universe. Every hero looks up to him, his inspiration spurring them on to greater and greater things. The things he’s done over the years are amazing and few can match him.
Superman has accomplished some great things, winning battles and saving the day more times than anyone can count. He’s blazed a path for every hero out there and remains the best of the best.
10 He’s Protected Metropolis From Some Of The Greatest Villains
Superman battles some of the most dangerous villains around to protect Metropolis. Metropolis isn’t the locus of crime that Gotham is, but its riches and technology have made it a target for many villains, ones who have endangered its citizens in a myriad of ways. Superman has always saved the day, keeping the city and its people safe from the worst his foes can throw at it.
Superman’s neverending battle against evil has put a target on his city and he’s never let it down. The odds don’t matter, Superman will always win. Protecting the innocent is what he does best.
9 He Sacrificed His Life To Protect Everyone From Doomsday
There are some people out there who wouldn’t see death as an accomplishment but those people don’t understand Superman. The Death Of Superman is an undisputed classic and it represents just how far Superman will go to protect his city and the people in it. As the battle went on, Superman knew it was only going to end one way, but he kept fighting.
Superman giving his life for his city is exactly what Superman is meant to do. Doomsday’s threat was like few he’d ever faced before. Giving his life to save his people was the least he could do, and a great accomplishment.
8 He’s Saved The World From Brainiac
Brainiac is one of the most terrible beings in the DC Universe, a cosmic predator whose only purpose is to increase his knowledge. His method for doing this isn’t by studying but by attacking worlds, stealing cities, and then destroying everything. He’s one of the few beings in the cosmos that Superman actually fears, with his attack on Krypton being the stuff of legends.
Superman has been able to stop Brainiac every time he comes calling, which is a major achievement. Brainiac has been destroying entire solar systems for years and Superman’s ability to defeat him is a big deal.
7 He’s Outsmarted Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor is Superman’s greatest foe, his intelligence rivaling Superman’s vast power. Luthor hates Superman, feeling that his great power makes him look bad and that Superman has taken the spotlight that Luthor deserves. The two have battled each other many times over the years, with Superman being able to do something that few in the world have ever done and that’s outsmarting Lex Luthor.
Outsmarting Luthor is no easy feat and it’s definitely impressive that Superman has been able to do so. It’s also stoked the flames of Luthor’s hatred even more, as he can’t handle losing to anyone ever.
6 He’s Been Able To Stop Darkseid
Darkseid is one of the greatest villains in the DC Multiverse, a powerful and cunning foe who has defeated gods and kept the war against New Genesis brewing for times untold. At his disposal are legions of Parademons and powerful lieutenants like the Female Furies, Kalibak, and Desaad. He’s tried to attack the Earth many times and Superman has always been there.
Superman has managed to defeat Darkseid with the help of the Justice League but also on his own, which is extremely impressive. Few have been able to stop Darkseid singlehandedly and for Superman to have done so says a lot about him.
5 He’s A Leader Of The Superheroic Community
Superman is more than just a great hero on his own but the guiding light of the entire heroic community on Earth. He’s one of the Justice League’s most important members and has proven over the years to be one of the greatest hero leaders out there. Superman’s greater than just a set of superpowers; he’s someone that can inspire and lead like few others.
The Earth is full of powerful and prestigious heroes, any one of whom could be the leader. Superman has earned his place but has no problem stepping back, which shows that he’s a true leader; few can match his humility. Superman didn’t take the lead, he was given it and that makes all the difference.
4 He’s One Of The Best Reporters In the U.S.
Being a superhero is important but it’s not the only thing in Superman’s life; he’s also one of the best reporters around. As Clark Kent, his stories for The Daily Planet have done a lot of good, exposing corruption and speaking truth to power. While he’s no Lois Lane, his accomplishments as a reporter mean as much to him as his super-heroics.
Journalism and exposing the truth are just as important as fighting bad guys to Superman. He realizes that both parts of his life are important to the world and puts as much of his all into journalism as he does his heroics.
3 He’s Lived Up To The Ideals The Kents Taught Him
Jon and Martha Kent found the young Kal-El on the side of the road and raised him as their own. They taught him the values that would drive him to heroism. They gave him the ideals that would inform his mission for years to come, setting the perfect example for him. They showed him what good people were capable of and what he could be capable of.
The Kents showed Superman what he could be and he followed their teachings to the tee. He’s never let them down in all of his years of heroism, never fell below the standard they set for him, which is a major accomplishment.
2 He Married Lois Lane
The relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane is one of the most storied in all of modern fiction. They are true equals; sure, she can’t lift cities but her intelligence and skills are quite different from Superman’s. They complement each other perfectly and in their years of will they won’t they, they created an unbreakable relationship.
To Superman, his marriage to Lois Lane is one of his greatest accomplishments. She loved him as much as he loved her and pledged to be with him. For a man who’s saved the Multiverse many times over, the love of the smartest woman he knows means so much.
1 He & Lois Raised A Hero
Superman and Lois’ son, Jon, and how he turned out is Superman’s greatest accomplishment. Raising a child is never easy, especially not one with powers, but they succeeded. Even with all the time he spent away from them, he stayed true to the things they taught him and has grown into an amazing hero in his own right, a young man more than worthy of the mantle of Superman.
Jon Kent is on his way to becoming a great hero because of what Lois and Superman taught him, which is the greatest thing that Superman has ever done. His son has already surpassed him in many ways, something that makes any parent proud.
