Microsoft confirmed the latest games set to leave its Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
The following titles are all set to depart Game Pass on Oct. 31, as announced by Xbox Wire.
- Carto (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Celeste (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Comanche (PC)
- Eastshade (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Five Nights at Freddy’s (Cloud, Console, and PC)
- Knights & Bikes (Console and PC)
- Unruly Heroes (Cloud, Console, and PC)
The departures may seem minor in comparison to September, which saw major titles such as Red Dead Online and Forza Motorsport 7 leave the service. However, existing subscribers may wish to take the chance to try them out in the hopes of finding a hidden gem.
Celeste would be considered by many as the highest-profile game on the list, as it received universal acclaim following its release in 2018, earning awards for “Best Independent Game” and “Games for Impact” at The Game Awards that year. The side-scrolling platformer follows Madeline, on her journey to the top of Celeste Mountain, while she battles her inner demons. Puzzle adventure game Carto also received critical acclaim following its October 2020 release. The adventure follows Carto on the journey back to her family, as players complete a number of “world-altering” puzzles along the way.
Perhaps the most recognizable departure is the horror title Five Nights at Freddy’s, which became a cult hit after its release in 2014. The game bombards the player with jump scares as it puts them in the role of a night-shift security guard at a Chuck E. Cheese-style establishment, where the evil animatronic characters come to life and hunt the player.
Multiplayer fans may be keen to try out Unruly Heroes, a 2-D beat-’em-up, as well as the story-driven adventure Knights And Bikes. Both titles offer a co-op mode and garnered positive reviews from critics since their respective releases in 2019. Meanwhile, Comanche, the latest entry in a nearly three-decade-old flight simulation series, also features a multiplayer component as well as a single-player campaign.
Closing out the list of departures is the charming exploration-driven title Eastshade. The game places the player in the role of an artist, capturing the world in paintings while meeting the various inhabitants of the island of Eastshade.
Along with the titles leaving Game Pass, Xbox also announced a slew of new arrivals set to debut in October, including Dragon Ball FighterZ and Age of Empires IV. Additionally, existing subscribers can receive a 20% discount on digital copies of the departing games, if they purchase before Oct. 31.
