The Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers is Metroid Dread‘s seventh boss. Players may despair at having to encounter numerous Robot Chozo Soldiers and Chozo Soldiers throughout the game, let alone the E.M.M.I., but this fight takes that pain a step further: Samus must face two Robot Chozo Soldiers simultaneously. No easy shortcuts exist to make this 2v1 battle go quietly into the night, but this guide will offer some key tips to make the encounter less agonizing.
Samus fights the Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers in Ferenia shortly after defeating Escue and acquiring the Storm Missiles. While one might think those Missiles would come in handy for this fight, players typically won’t get a chance to lock on to both of the Robot Chozo Soldiers. Instead, players will need to focus on combining Aeion abilities with good old-fashioned hit and runs.
Breaking Down The Fight Against The Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers
The Robot Chozo Soldiers use the same moveset as before: They will fire three shots or a beam, or attack with the blades on their arms. If the blade attack is a swipe, the energy around the blade will glow red. If the blade attack is a lunge, it will shine blue. The blue blade attack can be countered and will restore health and ammunition.
The main difference in this fight is that Samus has to contend with two soldiers at once. Typically one soldier will always advance on Samus’s position directly and try to engage her with a blade attack. The other soldier will be on a different platform nearby and will fire shots at Samus to prevent an easy escape. Sometimes the soldiers and Samus will find themselves on the same platform. In these instances, both soldiers may begin using blade attacks.
Strategies To Defeat The Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers
This battle offers a lot of room for maneuverability. It has four platform height levels, and players should take advantage of this fact. Jumping around or sliding under the soldiers to prevent them from forcing Samus into a corner will make it easier to evade attacks.
Liberal use of Samus’s Flash Shift Aeion ability is highly recommended, as it offers a quick escape from the soldiers if they get too close or try using their red blade attack. Should players be desperate, charging the Plasma Beam and then performing a Spin Jump without firing will also damage the soldiers (and Samus).
Maintain distance from the soldiers and fire at them as they approach. Move away quickly with a Flash Shift, especially if they use a red blade attack; make sure Samus has a clear escape route for this purpose. If players are able, focusing on damaging one soldier at a time may help. Eventually one of the soldiers will explode, providing health, ammunition and much-needed breathing space to finish the fight.
The fight against the Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers will be hard for many players, especially if they previously had a tough time fighting the soldiers on their own. Whether or not someone is victorious will ultimately come down to skill, but don’t be discouraged if success takes a while to achieve. Get comfortable with the layout of the fighting area and focus on evading attacks. Once players become confident in where they can retreat or attack from without sustaining considerable damage, this battle will become much more manageable.
