Supergirl’s Mon-El Dislocated His Jaw Filming an Eating ‘Stunt’

Former Supergirl actor Chris Wood could have used Mon-El’s superpowers filming an unexpectedly dangerous scene that evidently caused him serious injury.

During Supergirl‘s Farewell Tribute Panel at DC FanDome, Wood, surrounded by current and former cast members of the CW series, recalled a scene from Season 2 where his Daxamite character bit into an entire stack of ten pancakes at once. When the other cast members laughed at this moment, Wood pointed out that “my jaw sort of dislocated a little bit” performing the cuisine-related action, which he insisted qualifies as a stunt in hindsight. “

“It was a big stack of pancakes and I was like ‘Oh, this is gonna be so funny’ and then my jaw went like..” said Wood, before reenacting how his mouth felt immediately after taking that bite.

Actor Cheryl Leigh, who has played Supergirl‘s Alex Danvers since Season 1, reminded Wood that he also had an on-set eating incident involving pizzas. Wood explained to the cast, “I made like two pizzas and I was, like, eating three per take,” on an unspecified scene. Brainiac-5 actor Jesse Rath also revealed that he considered pulling a similar pizza-related stunt for Season 6, only to learn that Wood had beaten him to it years ago.

Wood debuted as Mon-El, a survivor of Krypton’s rival twin planet Daxamite, in Season 2 following Supergirl‘s shift from CBS to the CW. Initially claiming to be a refugee, it’s later revealed that he is the son of Daxam’s royal family, who sent Mon-El away to escape their world’s ongoing disasters caused by Krypton’s destruction. He was sent off-world in Season 2’s finale, only to return in Season 3, where he revealed that he had been transported to the 31st century and helped form the Legion of Superheroes in Supergirl’s honor. From there he made supporting appearances in Season 3.

Wood will return as Mon-El for Supergirl‘s series finale alongside Jordan’s Winn and Mehcad Brooks’ James Olsen. A recent series of leaked set photos revealed stunt actors for Mon-El and Kara in a scene together, but no description was given for the scene itself. Outside of Supergirl, Wood also voices Prince Adam/He-Man in Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation, whose second half will premiere on November 23.
