Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are two of the biggest franchises in popular culture. Both have multiple films and years of lore to build off of and expand. Of course, the biggest heroes in the franchises are the Avengers and the Jedi. But because they’re so different in their creations, the question of which team is stronger hasn’t come up — until now.
The original MCU Avengers have multiple factors that could give them the edge against the Jedi, thanks to the vast differences in each hero’s skills. However, the Jedi have their own attributes that the original Avengers have yet to face. This showdown will pit the Star Wars prequels’ Jedi Council against the first team of Avengers that faced off against Loki in 2012.
The Avengers Have Strength in Strategy

When the Avengers first form, it happens suddenly and amidst a whirlwind of chaos. But as the Chitauri invasion continues from a portal in the sky, Captain America gives orders to the team and provides each member with an objective. This not only gives them a focus to sift through the chaos but gives the team hope that they can win. That same focus from Cap would help in a battle against the Jedi. Some standouts include Hulk and Thor, whose strength and power could easily overcome a Jedi. In addition, Hawkeye’s skills in misdirection could confuse a Jedi long enough to be blindsided.
The Avengers Aren’t a Fully Formed Unit Yet

While Cap’s leadership helps point the team in a direction, they’re still new to working together. As a result, they aren’t aware of each other’s limitations and full range of power. For example, should the Hulk decide he doesn’t want to listen, Black Widow can’t calm him down like she does in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Another issue would be making sure everyone communicates. This is shown in The Avengers when Natasha only communicates her plan to get to the roof of Stark Tower with Steve and no one else. The lack of cohesion within the team could lead to an implosion. This same doubt and chaos could then be exploited by the Jedi, who could feel it through the Force.
The Jedi Council Have Years of Experience

This iteration of the Jedi Council has been fighting in the Clone Wars for years. As a result, these keepers of the peace are more akin to warriors. Each member brings their own skills to the team, such as Mace’s shatterpoint ability, which allows him to exploit any weakness he feels from the Force. There’s also Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose defensive saber technique is impenetrable. Combined with Yoda’s powerful connection to the Force, the council has every base covered with only three members. But the Avengers wouldn’t just be facing those three; they’d have to contend with multiple Jedi who can sense nearly everything with the Force, making them seemingly untouchable.
The Jedi Council Is Slowly Being Divided

In this Star Wars era, Chancellor Palpatine is using the Dark Side to sew doubt within the Jedi Council. The Clone Wars also weakens their resolve with each passing year. The more their actions contradict their traditions, the more they leave themselves open to darker influences. As a result, some Jedi trying to stop the Avengers may feel inclined to rely on the Dark Side to end the fight quickly. Mace Windu’s saber style, for instance, requires him to use aspects of the Dark Side. But should he slip too far in trying to catch the likes of Thor, he could become an enemy to his friends. Ultimately, the Jedi are just as fragile a team as the Avengers are.
Who Would Win in a Battle Between the Avengers & the Jedi Council?

At first, this battle seems quick to call, but further, inspection reveals that it’s not as easy as it looks to beat the Avengers. They are known to attack hard and fast, especially Iron Man and Hulk. This means an ambush tactic would likely be the first step in fighting the Jedi. Order 66 has proven that ambushing a Jedi faster than they can counter will result in them falling fast and hard. But this also leaves the Avengers open to injury, which means the Hulk could face crippling blows from a lightsaber.
The Jedi have also shown that a trained Mandalorian could subdue Jedi like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Black Widow and Hawkeye share similar skills and weapons to Mandalorians, meaning they could potentially have a higher chance of stopping one. Black Widow has also shown how fast she can adapt to alien tech, making her likely to obtain a lightsaber. In the end, the Avengers are strong-minded and fight with their hearts and souls. While strong with the Force, the Jedi rely on tradition and keeping their emotions in check. This leaves them open to ambushes, misdirection and eventual defeat. The Avengers will undoubtedly take many casualties, but their tenacity will ultimately lead to their victory.
