The Karma Seal is a special power in Boruto that is given to select people by members of the Otsutsuki Clan. Introduced in the Versus Momoshiki arc, a Karma Seal can be implanted on a person by an Otsutsuki to resurrect themselves by using their bodies as a vessel.
In essence, the person who gets the seal slowly becomes an Otsutsuki until they transform into them completely. As expected, Karma offers great power, and those who have it are certainly a cut above the rest. Still, this power is equally dangerous, making it a double-edged sword.

When a Karma Seal is used, it grants the user a huge boost in strength, but there are bigger drawbacks to having this seal. Using the second stage of this power means that the person gives up control over their body, practically manifesting the Otsutsuki themselves. This was seen when Boruto Uzumaki fought against Boro, and Momoshiki took over his body with ease. Later, Boruto also lost control after the fight against Isshiki Otsutsuki, which led to some severe consequences for Sasuke.

One of the biggest advantages of having a Karma is that the user gets an incredible amount of power. Just by using the first stage of the Karma, the physical attributes of the person are boosted to sky-high levels. When fighting Naruto, Boruto could force him to go serious on him with the first stage of Karma. When this power is fully unleashed, not even someone as strong as a Kara Inner can stop it, as evident from Boruto’s fight against Boro.

As the Karma progresses, it is easier for the Otsutsuki to manifest themselves every now and then. For Boruto, the first time this happened was against Boro, whom he killed with a single Rasengan. Shockingly, Boruto had no recollection of what happened as he had lost complete control over his body. Later on, he hurt Sasuke when accessing this power again, proving that he had no control over his own body.

Real elements, such as Kashin Koji’s flames from the Flaming Mountain, cannot be absorbed. Nonetheless, this is an incredible power to have up one’s sleeve.

Having a Karma seal offers great power, but it often leads to a person losing all value. To the Otsutsuki, the person is nothing more than a vessel that is used for their own selfish purposes. For Kawaki, this thought haunted him right until he met Naruto, who gave him a home and became a father to him. However, even then, the circumstances around the seal were responsible for Kawaki’s low self-esteem, while the likes of Jigen were treated as worthless objects.
5 Perks: Karma Gives The User The Ability To Fly
Another incredible power offered by Karma is that of flight. All Otsutsuki members are capable of flying, meaning those who receive the Karma gain this ability as well. This power isn’t accessible in the first stage of the Karma as neither Boruto Uzumaki nor Kawaki has been seen using it at that level. However, when Boruto unlocked the second stage of this seal, he gained the ability to fly, as evident when he fought Boro in another dimension.
4 Harsh Reality: Karma Users End Up Hurting Those They Love
As stated earlier, the Karma seal is a double-edged sword. While it does make the user incredibly powerful, its downsides are just as bad and possibly even worse. Every user of the Karma who is a vessel ends up losing their identity and relinquishing control over to the Otsutsuki in time.
When that happens, all the loved ones of the person are in immediate danger. When Boruto defeated Boro, he could very well have killed his teammates as well. That’s how Sasuke lost his Rinnegan.
3 Perk: It Enhances All The Physical Attributes Of The Person
While the second stage of Karma is quite dangerous, the first stage doesn’t pose much of a threat. Both Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki possess complete control over this power. Just by accessing the first stage, the user gains a massive power upgrade. Boruto Uzumaki became strong enough to fight his own father in a proper sparring match. Meanwhile, Kawaki was able to destroy Garo in a fight with ease.
2 Harsh Reality: The User Of Karma Dies Once The Otsutsuki Member Is Resurrected
All the Karma users are essentially vessels who are used by the Otsutsuki to resurrect into when they die. Once all of their data is in the vessel, the Otsutsuki can then resurrect themselves at the expense of the life of the Karma user. If Boruto Uzumaki doesn’t get rid of the Karma in time, he will end up dying, and Momoshiki Otsutsuki will take over his body permanently.
1 Perk: The Karma Seal Also Offers Space-Time Ninjutsu
All members of the Otsutsuki Clan are capable of using space-time ninjutsu, meaning those who bear the Karma have this power as well. When Naruto was sealed in a different dimension, it was Kawaki and Boruto who paved way for his rescue by opening a portal to that dimension. After finding Naruto, once again, Kawaki and Boruto Uzumaki were the ones responsible for bringing him back with their space-time ninjutsu. By now, Boruto’s Karma has progressed enough to let him use this jutsu by himself.
