Jake Gyllenhaal and director Sam Hargrave are teaming up on the film adaptation of Rob Liefeld’s comic book Prophet from Studio 8.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gyllenhaal will star as the titular John Prophet, a Captain America-style super soldier who was selected by the Germans towards the end of World War II to undergo scientific experiments, giving him superhuman strength. Hargrave, the filmmaker behind Extraction, will direct and Marc Guggenheim, the writer behind several Arrowverse shows on The CW, will pen the script.
“It’s been a goal of ours to work with Jake and Sam for quite some time, so we’re very excited to finally be collaborating with them on this unique, action-packed genre film,” said Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov in a statement. “I’m looking forward to seeing what they envision for bringing this story to life — a story we’re sure will stand out in the comic book world as a powerful, emotionally charged and visually distinctive film.”
