My Hero Academia: 5 Avengers Izuku Would Team Up With (& 5 He Wouldn’t)

My Hero Academia takes many cues from classic shonen anime series and superhero comic book series, and that means many MHA characters could easily join an existing superhero team, such as the Justice League, the X-Men, or the Avengers. Protagonist Izuku Midoriya would gladly join any of those teams to help them save the day.

Izuku is a melee-oriented hero with the power of One For All, and he also has a sharp tactical mind and the pure heart of a selfless and brave superhero. He could intern with the Avengers in the MCU, and he could choose which Avengers to fight with, and which not to. Which particular Avengers would make good teammates for him, and why?

10 GOOD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Hawkeye Can Watch Izuku’s Back From Afar

Izuku is a short-range specialist, and while he has innovated a few ranged attacks, he’d rather leave ranged combat to a teammate. In his own universe, he could rely on Yuga Aoyama for the job, and among the Avengers, he would choose Hawkeye the archer as his backup.

Hawkeye simply never misses, and he has a wide variety of arrows with special properties, such as explosive arrowheads or electric discharges. Hawkeye can pick off any villain who gets too close to Izuku to keep the way clear for a Smash attack.

9 BAD AVENGER TEAMMATE: The Hulk Works Best Alone

Hulk grimaces and raises a fist

It’s not easy to find someone who would be a good teammate for the Incredible Hulk, though the mighty Thor might be able to keep up with him. For the most part, the Incredible Hulk is best off fighting solo, so he can thrash around and smash the place on his own accord.

Most potential teammates would get caught in the crossfire, or they’d be redundant with the Hulk’s immense strength. Izuku wouldn’t like the Hulk’s chaotic methods and avoid him during battle. Izuku doesn’t want to get hit by a huge chunk of debris.

8 GOOD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Captain America Can Shield Him From Harm

Chris Evans As Captain America In MCU

Captain America would make a great teammate for a wide variety of heroes, and for a number of reasons. Captain America is brave and loyal, and he also has sharp tactical skills that even surpass Izuku’s and Momo Yaoyorozu’s. Izuku wouldn’t mind taking orders from him as a partner in battle.

Better yet, Captain America can shield Izuku’s flank with his star-spangled shield, buying Izuku time to charge up and deliver a devastating Smash attack. If pressed, Captain America can also toss his shield to dispatch foes from afar, too.

7 BAD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Ant-Man’s Tactics Are Too Weird For Izuku

Scott Lang, AKA Ant-Man, is a peculiar superhero even by MCU or My Hero Academia standards. He can use Hank Pym’s secret technology to shrink himself down to minuscule sizes, or he can expand into a giant. He can also modify the size of other items with thrown discs.

Izuku would be impressed, and Ant-Man’s giant size would remind him of Mt. Lady the titanic hero. However, Izuku isn’t ready to factor these powers into his battle plans, and shrinking to ant size doesn’t help him deliver a Detroit Smash. This won’t work out.

6 GOOD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Vision Is A Better Yuga Aoyama

MCU Vision

The robotic superhero Vision was born during The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and he also has the Mind Stone embedded in his forehead. Vision is capable of flight and can use super-strength in battle, but that’s not all. With that Infinity Stone, he can also perform devastating ranged attacks with an energy beam.

This is roughly similar to Yuga Aoyama’s Navel Laser Quirk, but it’s even more destructive, and Vision is far tougher than Yuga, and Yuga cannot fly like Vision can. If Izuku would work with Yuga, he would definitely work with Vision, too.

5 BAD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Bucky Barnes Lacks Sufficient Firepower

Bucky Barnes is Steve Rogers’ best friend, but during his time in the Soviet Union, he was transformed into the Winter Soldier, an elite agent with deadly skills and a metal left arm. Eventually, the two friends reunited as allies, and Bucky lent his firepower to the Avengers cause during the battle for Wakanda.

Izuku would be intrigued by this Avenger, but he doesn’t really need Bucky’s help. Bucky’s melee power can’t compare to a Smash, and Izuku already has Vision and Hawkeye for ranged support. He won’t need any aid from Bucky’s assault rifles.

4 GOOD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Falcon Can Give Izuku Wings

Sam Wilson, AKA Falcon, doesn’t have enough firepower to keep up with One For All, nor does he have any supernatural powers of his own. But that’s not what Izuku needs from him. Depending on the terrain and mission parameters, Izuku would eagerly want Falcon on his team because the latter fan fly.

Falcon’s high-tech wings can quickly transport him to and from any destination, and he could carry Izuku around to deliver him to a high-priority target or help Izuku escape a difficult situation, such as a crumbling building. In some cases, survival is guaranteed only if someone can fly.

3 BAD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Iron Man Is Too Busy To Help

Tony Stark in his Iron Man suit

In theory, the invincible Iron Man is the ideal teammate for Izuku, since he can fly like Falcon and Vision, and he can use a wide variety of ranged attacks. In a real battle against numerous opponents, though, Iron Man would be too busy fighting to bother helping Izuku.

Iron Man will sometimes cover his allies, but given his power and lone-wolf attitude, he tends to go after the strongest foes and focus all his attention on them. Izuku would rather have a teammate who’s more available to watch his back.

2 GOOD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Black Panther Also Favors Melee Combat

Black Panther is the beloved king of Wakanda and its #1 defender, and he has a suit to match. T’Challa’s vibranium suit protects him from nearly all harm, and the suit also comes with sharp claws to scratch up the enemy. Some models can even absorb and redirect energy.

If Izuku asked, Black Panther would back him up in a fierce melee battle, such as if the two of them are surrounded by an entire mob of monsters or enemy soldiers. Black Panther can draw the enemies’ attention, and then Izuku can finish them with a Smash. Black Panther’s suit will protect him from becoming collateral damage in the process.

1 BAD AVENGER TEAMMATE: Thor Doesn’t Need Izuku’s Help

Thor succeeded his father Odin as the king of Asgard, being the former prince of the realm. Thor is also a mighty Avenger, and he also learned some humility during his time on Earth. Now, he is a well-rounded fighter with a variety of powers, mainly hammer attacks and devastating lightning storms.

Most opponents don’t stand a chance against Thor, and Izuku would quickly realize that for himself. Thor can easily overshadow Izuku in most fights, and so Izuku would rather team up with someone closer to his own power level to create a balanced duo. Thor can look after himself.
