Ager’s Scepter is an Exotic stasis trace rifle exclusive to Destiny 2 Season of the Lost season pass holders. Designed by Osana and Mara Sov, Queen of the Awoken, as a gift for Uldren, this trace rifle was hidden within the Dozmary Vault in the Dreaming City. Mara has granted Guardians the opportunity to take this gun in Uldren’s stead, and it is well worth the effort. Defeating enemies with Ager’s Scepter slows and freezes nearby targets, making it perfect for PvE encounters, especially for solo players.
Guardians will need to complete both “Tracing the Stars” and “A Hollow Coronation” quest lines to receive Ager’s Scepter. ‘Tracing the Stars” pieces together a story Uldren made about his and Mara’s journey from the Distributary, while “A Hollow Coronation” is a race against Xivu Arath, sister of Savathûn the Witch Queen, to claim the weapon. Once Guardians acquire Ager’s Scepter, it can also open hidden paths within the Shattered Realm.
How to Complete Tracing the Stars
“Tracing the Stars” is available after finishing “Wayfinder’s Voyage I.” The quest sends Guardians in search of Atlas Skews, keys that will unlock the Dozmary Vault where Ager’s Scepter is hidden. These Skews have been spread across the Dreaming City. Most are fairly straightforward, though a few can be tricky to locate. Each step of this quest states where, roughly, these Skews are hidden, and when they come close enough into range, a marker will appear on the screen cluing Guardians in to their exact location. This quest sends Guardians back and forth between the Dreaming City and the H.E.L.M. to deposit these Skews at the Caliburn Gatehouse.
In Part One, Guardians will collect five Atlas Skews from the Divalian Mists and Bay of Drowned Wishes lost sector. These are typically hidden in nooks. The easiest one to miss is the one on the Divalian Mists cliff, where an Awoken Corsair offers a patrol between the Spine of Keres and the tunnel leading to Rheasilvia. The Atlas Skew is actually on a cliff below, so Guardians will need to carefully descend off the edge to land on the cliff side.
Part Two sends Guardians to the Strand, Gardens of Esila and the Aphelion’s Rest lost sector. Gardens of Esila and Aphelion’s Rest are straightforward, but the Strand may prove slightly more difficult. One Skew is atop the giant statue where Public Events typically take place, just after entering the Strand. The other is hidden mid-level in the tangle of rocks and trees behind the gazebo statue.
Part Three of “Tracing the Stars” ventures into Rheasilvia and the Harbinger’s Seclude. While not necessarily hard to find, the Skew by the secluded statue on the second isolated island in the mist can be hard to reach. The Skew at the overlook is located at the top of some rocks by a patrol Corsair, just to the left of the bridge when heading to the Harbinger’s Seclude. Lastly, the Skew by the Ahamkara skulls in Harbinger’s Seclude can be found by jumping down the elevator shaft directly beneath the exit from the last chamber in the Seclude.
Finally, Part Four has all of its Skews hidden in the Confluence. These remaining Skews begin the quest “A Hollow Coronation,” which can be acquired from Mara Sov.
How to Complete A Hollow Coronation
After completing all four parts of “Tracing the Stars” and entering Dozmary Vault, Guardians will discover that the security protecting Ager’s Scepter has been triggered. To acquire the rifle, “A Hollow Coronation” requires players to complete numerous rounds of Astral Alignment in the Dreaming City. Guardians need to fulfill certain objectives, such as defeating a given number of champions or getting so many rifle kills, to give Awoken Corsairs enough time to find Strands of Nobility that will deactivate the gun’s security. They must get the final three Strands of Nobility themselves by completing three strikes: Lake of Shadows, The Disgraced and The Glassway.
Once these conditions have been met, Guardians can enter the Vault and use Ager’s Scepter against Kelgorath, an agent of Xivu Arath. This fight is easy enough to solo. It is an excellent showcase of the trace rifle’s ability to control small areas and clear waves of enemies while melting the giant Hive Knight’s health from a distance. Switching between the left and right ends of the map helps with this fight. Once victorious, Guardians can then obtain the weapon’s catalyst by completing rounds of Astral Alignment and opening chests.
