No Time to Die Star Promises a Bond Girl Unlike Any in Franchise History

Ana de Armas assures James Bond fans that her Bond girl character will stand out in No Time to Die, especially compared to the past 25 franchise entries.

The Sun recently spoke to de Armas, who elaborated on what this new individual, Agent Paloma, brings to the big screen alongside Daniel Craig in his final 007 movie. “Paloma is a really complete character. She’s definitely something else that I don’t think we’ve seen in other Bond girls in previous movies,” de Armas stated. “She’s a lot of fun — very active, very badass.”

No Time to Die will mark de Armas’ second collaboration with Craig after 2019’s Knives Out, in which she played Marta, the nurse of deceased novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) who becomes a subject of detective Benoit Blanc’s (Craig) criminal investigation. While de Armas won’t be back for the sequel, Knives Out 2, she explained that her previous partnership with Craig helped with the Bond film’s production. “It was so easy working with him because we had become friends,” the actor revealed. “So I didn’t feel out of place being part of a huge production that you have with a Bond film.”

De Armas also had nothing but positive things to say about Craig’s commitment to acting. “I love Daniel. He’s relentless,” she continued. “It doesn’t matter how exhausted he is or how many broken bones he has; he still shows up and goes to work every day. It’s so inspiring.”

Initially slated for April 2020, No Time to Die was among the earliest films to have its release date pushed back in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the moment, the film currently holds an 83% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the third-highest rated James Bond film from Craig’s tenure as Bond after Casino Royale and Skyfall. It also sits as the Tomatometer’s eighth most acclaimed Bond film, with only the aforementioned Craig films and four Sean Connery films ranking higher.

After No Time to Die, de Armas will star alongside Ben Affleck in Deep Water and play Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in Netflix’s Blonde, both scheduled for 2022 releases. Meanwhile, Craig will reprise his role as Blanc in Knives Out 2, which concluded filming in mid-September.

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and starring Daniel Craig, No Time to Die arrives in US theaters Oct. 8.
