Star Wars: 10 Characters Luke Skywalker Never Interacts With

The Star Wars movie saga was launched in May 1977 and Mark Hamill‘s Luke Skywalker was the star. Luke was a farm boy turned ace pilot and Jedi Knight, and during his adventures, he met, befriended, and fought many diverse characters before returning for more in the Sequel Trilogy as an aged and bitter Jedi Master.

Luke Skywalker was a busy character, and he quickly became Obi-Wan’s student before moving on to Yoda to prepare for his final battle against Darth Vader. However, there are some Star Wars characters Luke actually never met during the movies, often because they were far away from him or appeared before/after his time.

10 Luke Didn’t Clash With Grand Moff Tarkin

Peter Cushing as Tarkin in Star Wars: A New Hope

Luke and the villainous Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin were both aboard the Death Star at the same time in A New Hope, but the two of them never came face to face, and it’s likely that Luke never even learned who Tarkin is. He didn’t need to know, anyway – Tarkin died when Luke destroyed the Death Star.

There’s no doubt that Luke would have confronted Tarkin if they ever met, since Tarkin represents the very evil Luke is trying to vanquish. In the movie, it was Luke’s twin sister Leia who stood up to Tarkin, and she was very brave despite her desperate situation.

9 Greedo Wasn’t After Luke

Han And Greedo From A New Hope

In The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader hired a handful of bounty hunters to go after Luke and Han, but Greedo wasn’t among them. In A New Hope, Greedo cared nothing for Luke – he was after Han alone, who owed money to Jabba the Hutt. He confronted Han right there in the Mos Eisley cantina.

Greedo probably didn’t know or care about Jedi, Sith, or the Force, since he dealt with mundane matters such as collecting outstanding debts and capturing rogues like Han. If Greedo tried to apprehend Luke, he would lose a hand to Luke’s lightsaber.

8 Luke Didn’t Meet Director Orson Krennic

Director Orson Krennic was a villain in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. During this time, Luke was just a few days away from learning the truth about the Force and the ways of the Jedi. Luke was in no position to challenge director Orson Krennic, and Krennic died before Luke even left the desert sands of Tatooine.

Krennic was more concerned with gaining fame and glory with the Death Star project, and he butted heads with Tarkin, too. Krennic also interacted with Galen Erso, forcing the man to return to the Empire and help finish the Death Star project.

7 Luke Didn’t Meet Jyn Erso, Either

Jyn Erso the rogue is another major character in Rogue One, and Luke would have had mixed feelings if he did meet her. Jyn is a somewhat bitter and self-absorbed antihero, and she will gladly admit it. She isn’t nearly as idealistic as Luke and Leia are.

Jyn, like Krennic, died only days before Luke met Obi-Wan and obtained his father’s lightsaber, so the two of them had zero chances to meet. During Rogue One, Jyn was nowhere near Tatooine, so meeting Luke and Obi-Wan was impossible for her. Not that she would want to.

6 Luke Had No Business With Watto

Watto the junk dealer interacted with rather few Star Wars characters, mainly dealing with the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and his then-slave, Anakin Skywalker. Watto lives on Tatooine, the same planet as Obi-Wan and Luke, but he had no business with either of them during the Original Trilogy.

Luke might have heard Watto’s name once or twice during visits to Mos Eisley, but that’s not confirmed in the movies and it makes little difference anyway. Luke isn’t looking to buy anything Watto has to offer, and he’s not the gambling type in any case.

5 Luke Never Said Anything To Lando Calrissian

Luke and Lando Calrissian the lovable rogue were both active during the original movie trilogy, but they didn’t cross paths on-screen. Lando mainly interacted with his old friend Han, plus Leia, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader. In the sequel trilogy, Lando also met Finn, Poe, and Rey the Jedi.

Lando might have liked Luke if the two had met up, but they didn’t. By the time Luke arrived at Cloud City, it was too late to meet, and during Return of the Jedi, Luke was busy while Lando helped lead the Rebel assault on the second Death Star. The only time they could have realistically met was before the raid on Jabba’s Palace, but the film skips over those details.

4 Luke And Poe Dameron Stayed Far Apart

Poe Dameron is an ace pilot, and he was a major supporting character during the sequel trilogy era. Poe made friends with heroes such as Rey, Finn, and C-3PO, and took orders from General Leia Solo. However, he didn’t meet the entire Skywalker family.

Poe journeyed all over the galaxy to fight the First Order, but his travels didn’t bring him to the remote Ahch-To, the world where Luke was in hiding. Since Luke never left that planet during The Last Jedi, he had no chance to stumble upon Poe.

3 Admiral Holdo Fought Without Luke’s Aid

Amilyn Holdo

Admiral Holdo’s first and last appearance was in The Last Jedi, where she helped lead the desperate Resistance Fleet in battle against Snoke’s own fleet. During this time, Rey was on Ahch-To with Luke, and Rey was in no position to bring Luke back with her to aid the hard-pressed Resistance fleet.

So, Holdo had to fight without the aid of Luke, Rey, or even Finn and Rose. She did all she could to ensure the Resistance’s survival when time ran out, but if Luke had been there, his presence would have vastly boosted Holdo’s and Leia’s spirits.

2 Luke Didn’t Confront Supreme Leader Snoke

Snoke moments before death

Luke’s role in The Last Jedi was to prepare Rey to fight the Dark Side, not confront the Dark Side himself. Luke already faced Emperor Palpatine and Vader in a previous era, and now it was Rey’s turn to face the galaxy’s strongest Sith Lords to defend peace across the galaxy.

So, Luke stayed on Ahch-To and trained Rey in the ways of the Force, which this helped Rey survive her harrowing battle against Snoke and his guard. In fact, it’s not clear whether Luke even knew who Snoke was.

1 Luke Didn’t Team Up With Finn

Luke might have liked the heroic Finn if the ever met, but in the sequel trilogy, Luke interacted with very few characters. He mainly dealt with his apprentice Rey, and through his Force projections, he also interacted with Leia and his nephew, Kylo Ren. But that’s it.

Luke didn’t meet any of Rey’s friends or allies, and that means he didn’t meet Finn either – though Finn did meet Leia and Han. If they did meet, Luke might have seen a bit of himself and Han Solo in this stormtrooper turned freedom fighter.
