Following “record-breaking” order numbers, BOOM! Studios’ Something Is Killing the Children spinoff series, House of Slaughter, has delayed the release of its first issue by one week.
In an official press release, BOOM! explained that retailers have already ordered 460,000 copies of House of Slaughter #1, making it “the best selling original comic book series in BOOM! Studios history after Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR.” In order to “accommodate the volume of orders and ensure quality,” House of Slaughter #1 — which was previously slated for release on Oct. 20 — will now hit comic shops on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
Said BOOM!’s Filip Sablik, “In 2019, James and Werther took the industry by storm with a new original horror series, Something Is Killing the Children. It quickly became a worldwide sensation, selling over 1.1 million copies in its first 18 months, garnering numerous award nominations. The nearly half a million copies ordered of House of Slaughter #1 is a thunderous show of support from our retail partners, but necessitated we adjust the release date by one week to ensure the world class production quality retailers and fans have come to expect from BOOM! Studios.”
Writer James Tynion IV and artist Werther Dell’Edera, the creators of Something Is Killing the Children, return for the House of Slaughter spinoff, joining forces with writer Tate Brombal and artist Chris Shehan. Tynion, Brombal, Dell’Edera and Shehan are joined on the title by colorist Miquel Muerto. House of Slaughter #1 features main cover art by Dell’Edera and Shehan, as well as variant covers by the likes of Alvaro Martinez Bueno, Jenny Frison, Mike Del Mundo, Gabriele Dell’Otto and more.
“You know Aaron Slaughter as Erica’s handler and rival,” a synopsis for the comic reads. “But before he donned the black mask, Aaron was a teenager training within the House of Slaughter. Surviving within the school is tough enough, but it gets even more complicated when Aaron falls for a mysterious boy destined to be his competition. Discover the inner workings of the mysterious House of Slaughter in this new horror series exploring the secret history of the Order that forged Erica Slaughter into the monster hunter she is today.”
Written by James Tynion IV and Tate Brombal and illustrated by Werther Dell’Edera and Chris Shehan with colors by Miquel Muerto and letters by AndWorld Design, House of Slaughter #1 goes on sale Oct. 27 from BOOM! Studios.
