After announcing the video game roughly four years ago, Nintendo has finally released a trailer for Bayonetta 3.
The trailer showcases the new design of the titular character and the sharp, fast-paced gameplay. It features several of the Umbra Witch’s signature moves, her guns-akimbo style of combat, her iconic high-heeled pump holsters and some of her new tricks. According to the description, “A new-look Bayonetta returns to battle foes with her signature Witch Time! This time, she’ll wield her new Demon Masquerade ability to channel the power of demons and engage in larger-than-life action.”
The original Bayonetta game was released on Oct. 29, 2009, and it quickly became a fan favorite with more than 1.35 million units sold in less than a year. It received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and was awarded Game of the Year by IGN UK.
The third entry in the hack-and-slash video game franchise was announced at a 2017 Nintendo Direct presentation to the delight of fans; however, no new information was revealed until lead designer Hideki Kamiya teased the trailer’s release earlier this year. PlatinumGames is developing Bayonetta 3 with Yusuke Miyata (Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations, Astral Chain) serving as director and Mari Shimazaki (Bayonetta) designing the characters.
Bayonetta 3 will be an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch and is expected to be released sometime in 2022.
