Supernatural Star Recalls an NSFW On-Set Prank | CBR

Supernatural star Ruth Connell recalled a particularly inappropriate prank one of her costars played on her while filming a scene.

Fans of Supernatural know that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, the actors that played Dean and Sam Winchester for 15 seasons, will go to great lengths to make their co-stars laugh while filming a scene. Ruth Connell, who played Rowena MacLeod from Seasons 10 to 15, was not exempt from this tradition and shared a similar story during a panel at Lexington Comic & Toy Convention on Sept. 12, a video of which was shared by journalist Katie Cox on Twitter.

“I’m a theater person — you don’t stop, I don’t stop for anything. I just keep going. So, [Padalecki] brings out this ginormous…thing,” Connell said, with her co-panelist confirming the “thing” to be a “phallic symbol,” all of this occurring while Connell was on camera and Padalecki was off. She continued, “And then a big gigantic bottle of lube which they use for…the things. And he just kept bringing all these objects in front of me and I just kept doing the scene. My brain wouldn’t let me take in what was actually happening.”

Conell first appeared as Rowena in Season 10 of Supernatural as the mother of Crowley and served as the main antagonist until Season 11. She goes on to appear in a recurring role until the series’ final season, where she sacrifices herself in Season 15, Episode 3, “The Rupture.”

Supernatural came to a close in November 2020 after 15 seasons, making it The CW’s longest-running series, airing on the network from 2005 to 2020. Ackles recently celebrated the anniversary of Supernatural‘s production wrap on the final season, which happened to coincide with the filming wrap on Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys a year later, where he plays Soldier Boy.

Following the conclusion of Supernatural, a prequel, spinoff series titled The Winchesters was announced. Told from Dean’s perspective, The Winchesters will focus on Sam and Dean Winchester’s parents, John and Mary Winchester, in the early days of their “epic, love story,” and will follow the two characters as they “put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world.” The series will be executive produced by Jensen and Daneel Ackles through their production company Chaos Machine Productions.

Created by Eric Kripke (The Boys) and starring Ackles and Padalecki as monster-hunting brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, Supernatural ran on The CW for 15 seasons, wrapping its 327-episode run on Nov. 19, 2020. All 15 seasons of Supernatural are currently streaming on Netflix.
