Throughout the years, Activision’s Call of Duty franchise has offered countless maps, capturing different wars, differents eras and different atmospheres, all to keep the gunfights as exciting as they can be. However, in the expanding collection of maps, only a few have really captured gamers’ hearts. Those maps were recently recreated using LEGO bricks to mark the coming of Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Diamond Lobby has recreated the video game series’ most legendary maps using LEGO bricks. In order to bring them to life, the team used the Bricklink Studio 2.0 software, which contains a library of LEGO bricks and effects, and worked with 3D designer Evghenii Loctev, to recreate these Call of Duty maps.
The Crash map, which appeared in 2007’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare required 2,167 bricks to make and cost $1,340. Castle, which appeared in World at War needed 12,873 parts and cost $2,508. Terminal, by far the largest, was built using 18,043 bricks at a cost of $4,726. Firing Range was 5,133 parts and cost $1,988. The smallest map, Rust, needed just 1,811 bricks to build at $1,810. Nuketown had 5,953 bricks and a budget of $3,033. Slums required 3,456 bricks and cost $1,591 and finally, Raid, was built using 14,152 parts at a cost of $2,474.
Call of Duty: Vanguard recently saw the release of a teaser trailer, confirming rumors that circulated months before, stemming from a key art leak. The teaser gave fans a look at the World War II setting. Activision has since released more details about the new gameplay features the eighteenth instalment in the franchise will introduce. Vanguard‘s multiplayer mode is set to launch with 20 maps, 16 of which are included for core game modes. Four of those maps will feature in a new “Champion Hill” game mode.
Meanwhile, the game’s single-player campaign will cover four different theaters of World War II: the Pacific War, the Western and Eastern Fronts and the North African campaign. Sledgehammer Games’ narrative team has previously explained that the campaign will heavily emphasize multiple points of view and explore the origin of the special forces.
Some of the characters players will be introduced to are British paratrooper Sgt. Arthur Kingsley of the British Army 9th Parachute Battalion, Soviet sniper Lt. Polina Petrova of the Red Army 138th Rifle Division, American fighter pilot Cpt. Wade Jackson of the U.S. Navy Scouting Squadron 6 and Australian infantryman 2nd Lt. Lucas Riggs of the Australian Army 20th Battalion. The narrative team has said that some of these characters are based on real-life figures. Petrova, for example, was based on Soviet sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko, also known as “Lady Death.”
Developed by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty: Vanguard will arrive on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC on Nov. 5.
