It is currently Bisexual Awareness Week. To mark the occasion, an official Netflix social media account has channeled one of the streaming platform’s most popular characters, Lucifer Morningstar, to declare, in no uncertain terms, “Fuck bi erasure.”
On Twitter, the @NetflixGeeked account wrote, “Lucifer Morningstar really said ‘I’m bisexual.'” The tweet was accompanied by a screencap from Lucifer Season 3, Episode 8, “Chloe Does Lucifer,” in which Tom Ellis’ Lucifer declares, “I’m so good at flipping men they call me ‘The Skillet.'” @NetflixGeeked followed this post up with a second tweet, which simply reads, “Fuck bi erasure. Happy #BiWeek!”
As Lucifans have pointed out, Lucifer — which recently concluded its six-season run — has confirmed its lead character’s bisexuality on a number of other occasions, sometimes subtly, sometimes overtly. Perhaps the most notable example is Season 2, Episode 11, “Stewardess Interruptus,” in which Lucifer reveals that his list of past sexual partners includes men in addition to women.
Lucifer isn’t the only character @NetflixGeeked has quoted as part of its #BiWeek celebration. He’s not even the only character from a comic book adaptation, for that matter, with a similar post being made for Nick Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood) from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Bisexual Awareness Week, also known as #BiWeek, is held annually from Sept. 16 through Sept. 23. The event serves as an extension of Celebrate Bisexuality Day, which was established in 1999 and takes place annually on Sept. 23.
