How Netflix’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Sets Up Season 2

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Season 1 of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, now streaming on Netflix.

Netflix’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, much like the Revelation reboot, takes the franchise into all-new territory as it focuses on Prince Adam as a youngster, with other teens trying to find their place in an Eternia, divided by class and war. Sadly, Skeletor returns to seek the Power of Grayskull, which culminates in a brutal assault on the capital, Eternos.

With the villain shockingly achieving success and claiming the throne, let’s break down what Season 2 could look like.

Returning Castle Grayskull to Eternia

Adam/He-Man, Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Krass/Ram Ma’am and Cringer flew to the castle and convinced Sorceress to teleport it away. Skeletor corrupted King Randor’s armies to raze it, so they had no choice, but seeing as Sorceress was in a weakened state, we have no clue where the castle went. Season 2 can focus on the heroes trying to get it back home, as well as their adventures as they’re lost.

They could be in a different dimension or maybe space and time was warped, allowing the portal to send them to Eternia’s past. This could bring in King Grayskull (Adam’s ancestor and the first to wield the power) and other versions of He-Man, such as He-Ro. The castle can even be lopped into other He-Man cartoons from the past to fan those nostalgic flames. Either way, Duncan’s science and Sorceress’ magic will have to be melded to find a solution.

Skeletor’s Reign in the New Eternos

Seeing as Skeletor has control of the kingdom, he can now raid the Kirbinite metal troves, making more weapons. If he seeds them out, as well as more Kirbinite armor, he can use his Havoc Staff and enslave more people due to the dark energy’s connection with the metal. He can also use Trap Jaw, Beast Man and Evil-Lyn to recruit more folks to the cause, bringing in villains like Mer-Man, Tri-Klops and other evil regions.

Likewise, some may rebel, which can see Avion’s Stratos joining Randor’s resistance to take the throne back. Teela (aka Sorceress 2.0) and Ork-0 are with the king, so they can use their tech and magic to bring other tribes, such as the Tigers, in. It opens room for heroes such as Fisto, Strider and Meckaneck to join the resistance as well.

He-Man’s Flawed Weapons

In this series, Havoc is linked to the Power of Grayskull. It’s why the castle can channel both energies and why Randor’s ancestors hid the sword and staff away as they feared it’d corrupt the bloodline. But while Adam has survived this lust, he and his allies are vulnerable.

Skeletor broke Adam’s sword and Duncan reforged it using Kirbinite. This means the entire team could be tapped into by the villain, who can use this energy connection to brainwash them like he did his minions. It’d allow the story to explore how it’s not weapons that make heroes, but the power within. They can already transform separately without Adam’s sword so this can help them realize that they may not need weapons at all.

Will Hordak Be in Season 2 of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe?

Hordak was a major hit in the She-Ra reboot, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Netflix brought the villain here too. Seeing as the castle might have sent out energy beacons to different dimensions and is looping through space and time, it’s easy to see Hordak and the Horde wanting this power, coming to Eternia like in previous cartoons.

What’s interesting is that while Teela channels Zoar, Evil-Lyn, as her polar opposite, is channeling the dark magic of Horakoth. Her avatar’s revealed to be a bat from a dark dimension, so she may end up being the key to bringing Hordak over, as his sigil has been a bat as well. It’d give Evil-Lyn agency as she wants to usurp Skeletor, and create a villainous civil war with all of them trying to manipulate each other to see who can keep power.

Season 1 of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is now available on Netflix.
