Titans Clip Recreates a Classic Tim Drake/Dick Grayson Comic Moment

A new clip from Season 3 of HBO Max’s Titans recreates an iconic Batman comic featuring Tim Drake and Dick Grayson.

The clip, released by EW, sees Tim confronting Dick about his superhero alter ego. Taking cues from Marv Wolfman, Jim Aparo, Mike DeCarlo, Adrienne Roy and John Costanza’s Batman #441 (1989), Tim points out that he once saw Robin pull off an acrobatic feat only two people in the world could accomplish: Dick Grayson and his late father John. He also notes that he recently saw Nightwing perform the same maneuver, meaning Dick, Robin and Nightwing are one and the same.

In January, it was announced that Jay Lycurgo would play Tim Drake in Season 3 of Titans, making him the third canonical Robin to appear in the series thus far (he hasn’t held the mantle in the show yet). At the time, he was described as “a streetwise kid who’s managed to grow up on the toughest streets without losing his indelible belief in heroism. His easy-going demeanor is backed up by a near-genius mind, a natural detective with a perception of detail far beyond his years.”

Upon the Titans’ arrival in Gotham, an obsessive young man — Tim Drake — suspects he’s cracked the identities of both Batman and Robin,” Titans showrunner Greg Walker said in July, “and in doing so, gets pulled into Gotham’s dark mysteries.”

New episodes of Titans premiere Thursdays on HBO Max.
