The incoming price cuts for the Nintendo Switch are for Europe and Canada only and will not be coming to the United States of America.
Stephen Totilo, a video game journalist and co-author of the Axios Gaming newsletter, confirmed that the Nintendo Switch‘s price in the United States will not be altered following reports that the console will now be cheaper in European and Canadian regions. The news was shared directly from Nintendo to Totilo, who goes on to state that the United Kingdom will also benefit from the price slash.
Nintendo tells me yesterday’s Switch price drop was just for Europe (and the UK):
“The trade price adjustment is for the European region only. There are no plans to change the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for any Nintendo Switch model in the U.S.”

“The trade price adjustment is for the European region only. There are no plans to change the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for any Nintendo Switch model in the U.S.,” reads the official statement from Nintendo.
Nintendo recently revealed that its beloved hybrid console will now retail for £260 in the UK (down from £280) and €300 (previously €330) in other European territories. As for Canada, the Switch will now cost $379 CAD, a slight improvement from its previous price of $400 CAD. Speaking to Eurogamer, Nintendo clarified that the Switch’s price drop is largely due to current exchange rates and the impending launch of the updated Nintendo Switch OLED Model.
“More than four and a half years after its first release, Nintendo Switch continues to have strong sales momentum in Europe. After carefully weighing up a variety of factors, including currency exchange rates in Europe and the upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, we decided that now was the appropriate time to change the European trade price of Nintendo Switch,” confirmed Nintendo.
Nintendo has yet to provide a reason behind why the United States price will remain unaffected. While many fans may be displeased with the decision, the Nintendo Switch is still selling incredibly well in the US. The device was the best selling console in the US throughout August, surpassing both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S.
While Nintendo fans would no doubt enjoy a cheaper Switch, they can still look forward to a slightly chunkier version of the console. The Nintendo Switch OLED Model sports several major improvements over its older sibling, including a 7-inch OLED screen, improved console stand and a revamped dock.
Players looking to invest in the Nintendo Switch OLED Model won’t need to wait much longer. The console will launch on Oct. 8, retailing for $350 USD. Pre-orders for the upgraded Switch are now open.
