Big E Cashes in Money in the Bank to Win WWE Championship | CBR

Money in the Bank winner Big E successfully cashed in his briefcase to defeat WWE Champion Bobby Lashley.

The SmackDown superstar opened Raw by declaring he would cash in his title shot against the winner of Randy Orton (Raw tag team champion with Matt Riddle) vs. Bobby Lashley. The main event of Raw concluded with Lashley defeating Orton. However, after the match Lashley connected on a spinebuster on Orton through the announce table, injuring his knee in the process. This is when Big E’s music hit as we entered a commercial break, with the match commencing shortly after.

A short match followed, with Big E kicking out of a spear from The Mighty Bobby Lashley. Big E then was able to hit his finish maneuver to secure the WWE title in a shocking upset victory.

WWE made no secret that SmackDown‘s Big E would make an appearance on Raw. Earlier in the day, Fightful Select reported that Big E would have a major presence throughout the Monday night show. Of course, this led to speculation Big E was destined to walk out of Raw as the second New Day member to hold a championship single title. With Monday Night Football back in full swing and recent additions to AEW like Bryan Danielson, WWE appear to be getting creative with its weekly televised events.
