Overhaul is one of the most powerful villains introduced in My Hero Academia. His Quirk allows him to kill targets in a single touch, manipulate massive amounts of earth, heal whatever wounds he sustained in a matter of seconds, and even fuse with others in order to steal their powers.
Despite these amazingly versatile feats, the Yakuza boss isn’t invincible. Overhaul’s dependence on his Quirk and relatively low mobility were both massive detriments that Japan’s heroes. Matching him against the series’ cast reveals a lot about his abilities.
10 Could Beat: Kirishima’s Straightforward Approach Would Be A Death Sentence For Him
Kirishima’s “Hardening” Quirk was remarkably impressive and allowed him to shrug off the attacks of both Bakugo and Rappa. The former was particularly commendable given that the exploding hero could detonate entire city blocks.
However, Overhaul’s Quirk works on a molecular level and ignores how durable his opponents are. Moreover, Kirishima’s hardening has an immense stamina cost that would slow him down. Combining these factors, entering Overhaul’s melee range would immediately spell his death since he is used to enduring abilities rather than dodging them.
9 Would Lose To: Todoroki Is A Significantly More Powerful Ranged Fighter
Todoroki’s Quirk provides him two methods of defeating Overhaul. By utilizing his ice, he could skate alongside the massive spikes that the villain would summon against him, which would grant him a degree of safety while smothering the criminal in ranged attacks.
While Overhaul may be able to heal himself from Todoroki’s fire, his ice is prominent enough to freeze the majority of a tall building (as demonstrated in the fifth season’s first episode). Should he petrify Overhaul with a single attack, the Yakuza boss couldn’t use his Quirk to escape.
8 Could Beat: Neito’s Quirk Requirements Are Too High To Defeat Overhaul
In theory, Neito has the potential to defeat Overhaul since he can copy his Quirk. However, this necessitates that he come in the villain’s melee range, thereby making himself vulnerable in the process.
Additionally, Neito hasn’t experienced nearly as much direct combat against evildoers as Overhaul has and therefore is at a practical disadvantage of experience. Even if Overhaul couldn’t touch him at melee range, he could still use earthen spikes to skewer him before he got close (which are so fast that they were effective against Nighteye, a hero that could see the future).
7 Would Lose To: Eraser Head Could Exploit Overhaul’s Low Practical Skills
Eraser Head specializes in defeating two types of opponents; those who battle alone, and those who rely too exclusively on their Quirks. In an even fight against Overhaul, he would counter him just as easily as he did Shoto during the teachers’ exam.
So long as he doesn’t blink, Eraser Head could prevent Overhaul from healing, allowing him to capitalize on his low durability. The villain couldn’t even run away since he would be seized and yanked back by his opponent’s shroud if he tried.
6 Could Beat: Mr. Compress Is Effectively A Weaker Version Of Overhaul
Mr. Compress is weaker than Overhaul in every conceivable way. Although both villains’ Quirks allow them to defeat adversaries in one touch, only the Yakuza’s can manipulate the ground, heal himself, and fuse with others.
Additionally, their brief clash at Shigaraki’s hideout indicated that Overhaul has vastly superior reflexes. He could have killed Compress if he didn’t care about exacerbating tensions with the League of Villains. Although Compress ultimately got the last laugh by stealing Overhaul’s hand after he was already hospitalized, he would never win in a fair duel.
5 Would Lose To: Kurogiri’s Quirk Would Make It Virtually Impossible To Target Him
Since Kurogiri can disperse his void over a large radius, it would be remarkably difficult for Overhaul to anticipate where he was and skewer him accordingly. The nomu demonstrated enough speed to nearly catch up with Tenya Iida and managed to separate Class 1-A with a massive portal.
By putting Overhaul through his warp gate, Kurogiri could teleport him high into the air where he wouldn’t have ground to manipulate. Overhaul would die immediately after plummeting back to the floor without ever having time to heal himself.
4 Could Beat: Moonfish Is An Unstable & Crude Fighter
Moonfish has an advantage against Overhaul that typical melee fighters do not since his blades aren’t technically a part of his body. Moreover, they have tremendous range and enough power to slice through bone and trees alike.
However, he also relies on these barbed spikes in order to walk. Should Overhaul simply disturb the ground and create a dozen earthen stalagmites, Moonfish wouldn’t be able to navigate away in time or defend himself from the attack.
3 Would Lose To: Bakugo Balances Speed With Firepower In Order To Dominate Overhaul
Bakugo counters Overhaul due to the nature of his Quirk. By positioning his hands behind his back, he can fly through the air at such astounding speeds that his opponent’s earthen spikes would become irrelevant.
Although his explosions are most effective in close quarters, they have enough range to keep out of Overhaul’s reach while still causing meaningful damage. Should Bakugo use the firepower he employed to obliterate Todoroki’s towering ice walls against Overhaul, he would knock his opponent unconscious well before he had a chance to heal.
2 Could Beat: High-End’s Regeneration Would Be Worthless Against Overhaul
High-End was a notably devastating villain since he could only be destroyed at a molecular level. This was why it took Endeavor so long to kill him in spite of his numerous hell-spider and solar flare techniques.
Overhaul’s Quirk provides an ideal counter against High-End’s defenses since it is specifically designed to obliterate targets into nothingness. Should he allow himself to be skewered by one of the nomu’s barbed limbs, he could touch it in order to reduce him to a bloody mist.
1 Would Lose To: Overhaul Had To Cheat In Order To Stand A Chance Against Mirio
During the raid at the Yakuza hideout, Mirio completely humiliated Overhaul. His “Permeation” Quirk allowed him to weave through the villain’s spikes and unleash a flurry of heavy punches.
Shin had to target Eri in order to give his master a chance in the fight. Even without his powers, Mirio continued to dodge Overhaul’s attacks and almost managed to overwhelm him regardless. In a fair fight without hostages to consider, Mirio’s phasing Quirk and natural athleticism would enable a comfortable victory against Overhaul so long as he remained focused.
