Venom Gets Close With Eddie (and a Chicken) in New Let There Be Carnage Still

A new image from Venom: Let There Be Carnage has Eddie bonding with his symbiote… and a live chicken.

The still was posted by Fandango as part of its fall movie preview, which also included images from Halloween KillsEternals, Dear Evan HansenResident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

The image is the latest in a series of photos that have found their way online in anticipation of the film’s release. Previous stills include Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady / Carnage in action, along with looks at Frances Barrison / Shriek (Naomie Harris) and Patrick Mulligan / Toxin (Stephen Graham).

After rumors that the sequel to 2018’s Venom would be delayed to January 2022 due to COVID-19 concerns were debunked, Sony announced that the film would actually release two weeks earlier, shifting from Oct. 15 to Oct. 1. This is reportedly due to Marvel Studios’ success with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which opened to $94.6 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend.

Like Shang-ChiVenom 2 will benefit from being an identifiable Marvel property, despite being distributed by Sony and not Disney like most of the Marvel movies these days. The sequel will also appeal to a broad audience with its PG-13 rating, which disappointed some fans who were expecting an R rating.

“When you hear Carnage, the only thing you can think of is [an R-rating]. But if you know his story, if you really know the comic, there’s no R here. He’s a tortured soul,” explained producer Avi Arad back in 2018. “It’s not about what he does, because we never have to show the knife going from here to there, and the blood is pouring. What you have to show is, what is the motivation? Was he born like that, or [is he] someone we should feel for, because if you succeeding in making a villain someone you can feel for, jackpot.”

Directed by Andy Serkis, with a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage sees Tom Hardy return as Eddie Brock / Venom to face off against the villainous symbiote Carnage. Michelle Williams will reprise her role as Anne Weying, while Reid Scott will return as Dan Lewis.
