Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 Ending, Explained | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 6, Episode 15, “The Fungus Amongus,” which aired Sunday on The CW.

After a season filled with aliens, mysteries and love persevering, the Legends of Tomorrow have finally washed their hands of their sixth season. However, it was not a completely happy ending as, following the Legend’s year-end tradition, they were immediately met with their next problem, which has stranded them in 1925 with no way home. Before we cover that, let us journey through the final episode of Legends of Tomorrow‘s sixth season and explain all the events that befell the team.

The episode opened up by establishing Bishop’s threat as he brought over Zagurons from his planet to tear through the Legends. He dropped thousands of them into the evening fields outside the house of Spooner’s mom, waiting for the sun to set. Not wanting to waste any time, Sara impulsively asked Ava to marry her right then and there. The Legends put on a small ceremony, with Gary walking Ava down the aisle and Mick doing the same for Sara. The women vowed to love each other till the end of their days and before they could say I do, Bishop darkened the skies with fumes, awakening the Zagurons much earlier than the Legends would have hoped.

Before all that, the team discovered that Spooner and the Fountain of Imperium were dying and they needed a younger Bishop to help cure her. To solve this they brought the version of Bishop from his Ava-testing days to help, hoping he’d be more willing than his evil present self. Young Bishop did indeed cure Spooner, but was unable to help with the Fountain. For that, the team got help from none other than John Constantine who was presumed to be dead, but was actually turned into a mushroom by the Fountain. He tells Sara that they are all connected, hoping she will understand it as a way to save the Fountain.

As the fight drew closer, Spooner begged her mother to get far away from the fight, fearing she would lose her again just as she got her back. On the opposite end of the parental spectrum, Kayla and Mick grew to an understanding that they both want to take care of their hatching children, with Mick admitting he made a mistake with Lita and does not want to make the same one with his 48 new babies. With all that in place, the Legends prepared for the fight of their life.

Trapped inside Spooner’s childhood home, the Legends were outnumbered and unmatched until Spooner learned she could transfer powers between them. She exchanged powers whenever necessary, leading to a fun look into a Steeled up Ava, a magician Sara and Mick wielding an air totem. As survival started to appear bleak, Nate realized that Sara and Ava never said I do. He forced the team into a huddle and gave his final word, pronouncing the co-captain as wives. This connection of love was strong enough to convince the Fountain to save the Legends, emitting a burst strong enough to evaporate the Zagurons.

With the threat over, the Legends left the house only to be met by Bishop, who was, of course, frustrated and angry that his plan failed. As he prepared to kill the Legends, Mick’s babies hatched and attacked Bishop, eating him whole and saving the team. As the sun rose, it was time to say goodbye to two Legends. The Fountain resurrected John, who had a heart to heart chat with Zari, informing her that he needs to step away from magic and in turn, the Legends. Mick Rory also chose to leave, sticking to his vow to take care of his children. He had a heartfelt goodbye with Sara, the only other OG Legend, telling her how proud he was of her and hearing the same in return.

With all that said and done, the Legends made their walk to the Waverider, ready to take on another threat. But, before they could make it to the ship, another Waverider leapt from the temporal zone and bombed the Waverider before flying back in, leaving the Legends of Tomorrow stranded in 1925.

The Legends of Tomorrow will return on October 13th with their seventh season.
