Star Wars is full of vast worlds and distinct cultures. Some are only used as background characters to build the rich environment of Star Wars. Others are put right into the foreground and one of them is the Mandalorian’s.

This culture has had a significant place in the galaxy for centuries and fans of the series have always craved any information about them. Thanks to The Mandalorian and its success this group of people have been once again brought into the Star Wars limelight. While this is a powerful race of people, it is not always easy being one of the galaxies most dangerous foes.

7 There Is Always A Target On Their Backs

Mandalorian’s are known to be deadly and extremely dangerous, it is ingrained into their society to be warriors. This makes them a big target to the rest of the galaxy. From groups within their own society like the Death Watch, to outside enemies like Darth Maul or even the Jedi themselves at one point. All these groups saw the power of Mandalorian’s and sought to either control it or destroy it. When everyone is looking to bring them down it can be hard for them to get ahead.

6 There Are Strict Codes Of Conduct

As it was frequently shown throughout the first season of The Mandalorian there are strict codes involved with being a ‘true Mandalorian.’ They can never remove their helmets for anyone and they must help other Mandalorian’s who are following the Way of the Mandalore. They can adopt children and they are to be raised following the Way and are called Foundlings. This is not followed by all people though, some Mandaorian’s like the famous Bo-Katan Kryze see the Way of the Mandalore as a fanatic religion and those who follow it are part of its cult. Even when it comes to setting a societal standard the Mandalorian’s fight.

5 The Expectation To Be Great Warriors

It is not easy to live up to the generational expectation to be a great and powerful warrior. Mandalorian culture is built on a structure of strength, power and loyalty, not a pattern that is easily walked away from. In fact, Duchess Satin who was featured heavily in Star Wars: Clone Wars attempted to make Mandalorian’s a less violent people and forge a future of pacifism. This ended up fracturing their people and led to the downfall of Mandalore when it fell to Darth Maul and the Death Watch, one of the saddest moments of Clone Wars.

4 They Have No Place To Truly Call Home Anymore

After Palpatine rose to absolute power the Empire took over control of Mandalore. This occupation was met with much resistance from the Mandalorian’s, they would not go down without a fight. The Empire wanted the Mandalorian’s to submit and give them their valuable beskar.

When it was clear that the Mandalorian’s would not be controlled or tamed a new plan was formed. They launched an all-out genocidal attack on the system. Later referred to as the Great Purge, the Empire was determined to wipe out the threat and take what they wanted after. This left the remaining Mandalorian’s with nowhere left to go.

3 The Constant Fighting Between Clans

The Mandalorian’s not only deal with threats from splinter groups and tyrannical empires. they also deal with constant infighting and civil wars. Before the events of the Age of the Republic, the Mandalorian’s underwent a civil war between the people who wanted to honour the old ways and the New Mandalorian’s who sought peace. This is when Obi-Wan Kenobi was charged with protecting Duchess Satin. This conflict continued more or less until the formation of the Empire. Then under Imperial control another civil war broke out between those supporting the Empire and those against the occupation. That one ended with Bo-Katan controlling the Darksaber and the houses pledging to follow her.

2 The Galaxy Covets Their Beskar

The Mandalorian armour of Beskar is nearly indestructible. It can withstand blaster bolts and even lightsabers. This makes it extremely valuable to almost every single planetary system, government and low life in the galaxy. When Din Djarin first gets his beskar armour, he is eyed with jealousy by all the other bounty hunters. The Empire slaughtered countless Mandalorian’s simply to get their hands on their beskar. This is all an extreme affront to them because it is far more than just armour. It is a history of their families and legacy. Boba Fett tracked his armour down across the galaxy in order to reclaim his honour and reputation.

1 In Order To Lead They Have To Win Leadership

The Darksaber in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale

Although this rule hasn’t been followed, thanks to The Mandalorian it is becoming the way. In order to lead Mandalore and its people, one has to be deemed worthy. This is done through combat in order to win the all-mighty Darksaber. The Darksaber was the blade of the first Mandalorian Jedi and is a powerful symbol for Mandalore. It has a bloody history and is currently in the hands of Din Djarin. Bo-Katan Kryze desires to re-unite and rule Mandalore again but in order to do that she would need to fight with Djarin. It could lead to yet another Mandalorian Civil War between Bo-Katan’s faction and the Children of the Watch.
