Ruby Soho Debuts in AEW, Earns Title Shot | CBR

Professional wrestler Ruby Soho, formerly known as Ruby Riott, just made her All Elite Wrestling (AEW) debut at the promotion’s All Out pay-per-view following her release from WWE earlier this year.

Entering to the tune of Rancid’s “Ruby Soho,” the former leader of the Riott Squad proved to be a joker in the pack, as she was revealed as the mystery 21st entrant in the Casino Battle Royale match. Soho ultimately won the match by last eliminating Thunder Rosa, thus earning a shot at Dr. Britt Baker’s AEW Women’s World Championship. (Baker successfully defended her title earlier in the night against Kris Statlander.)

Real name Dori Prange, Ruby Soho began her professional wrestling career in 2010, performing on the independent circuit under the name Heidi Lovelace. She signed with WWE in late 2016 and joined the NXT developmental brand, making her television debut in early 2017 as Ruby Riot. She was called up from developmental later that same year and made her main roster debut on SmackDown, with the spelling of her name being changed to Ruby Riott. Unfortunately, she would become one of many superstars released by WWE earlier this year on June 2.

Since her WWE release, the wrestler has mostly kept a low profile. However, about three weeks after parting ways with the big Dub, the former Ruby Riott did appear on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, which is co-hosted by Lars Frederiksen of the punk rock band Rancid. She explained that she did not want to return to her former identity of Heidi Lovelace and — despite no longer being legally able to go by Ruby Riott — wanted to keep “Ruby” in her name, as it was inspired by Rancid’s popular song “Ruby Soho.” Frederiksen then suggested she actually use Ruby Soho as her name, even offering to get her the rights to use the song as her entrance theme. Ruby Riott became Ruby Soho on social media shortly thereafter.

In early August, it was reported that the newly-christened Ruby Soho was all but guaranteed to sign a contract with AEW. The timing of her AEW debut at tonight’s All Out PPV makes a lot of sense, given the fact that the 90-day non-compete clause in her WWE contract would have expired just a few days ago. While Soho herself did not confirm her AEW arrival ahead of time, she did tease some sort of impending announcement with a series of short films shared to social media.
