Of all the heroes in the Star Wars Universe, Obi-Wan Kenobi may be the only one who has friends on every planet. The Master Jedi, with his rather cool demeanor and welcoming attitude, could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like they were really being listened to. More importantly, everyone could tell that Obi-Wan was a good man who only wanted to help however he could.
But a question that begs an answer is, if Obi-Wan found himself traveling into other films, who would he become friends with? Surely not everyone is the smirking Jedi’s cup of tea – there are a lot of Darth Maul types out there after all – and there are other film heroes who Obi-Wan would surely respect, but probably not be friends with. These heroes, though, he would surely call friend.
10 Gandalf Would Remind Obi-Wan Of His Master
Speaking in weird riddles, having a weird thing about short people, and figuring out how to come back after dying are all things that can be said to describe Obi-Wan’s mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn. Those same things can be said about another great hero of a trilogy, Gandalf. The Lord of the Rings wizard and Obi-Wan would surely become fast friends with their love of half-answers, riddles, and bending the rules to accomplish their goals. Both men also gave their lives to help their proteges escape a great evil that they weren’t ready to face. The two heroes would have a lot to talk about.
9 Kikuchiyo Is Kind Of Like A Version Of Obi-Wan From Another Reality
Played by Toshiro Mifune in the classic Akira Kurosawa film Seven Samurai, Kikuchiyo is the standout of the samurai in the film, in part because of his humourous ways, but also because he’s lying about being a samurai.
Obi-Wan may have some issues with Kikuchiyo pretending to be something he isn’t, but he would quickly see the man’s true heart and skill and know that he has found a kindred spirit. That George Lucas reportedly wanted Mifune to play the role of Obi-Wan, and that Kurosawa’s work clearly influenced Lucas also suggests that the two characters would get along famously.
8 Captain Kirk And Obi-Wan Would Trade Death Trapo Stories
Captain James T. Kirk, the best-known commander of the USS Enterprise, is known for being brave, moral, and kind – as long as you aren’t one of those Klingon bastards who killed his son. Kirk entered every situation with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye that let you know he was already three steps ahead of you, even when he was playing from behind.
While the Star Wars movies didn’t show off Obi-Wan’s skills as a commander and strategist, Star Wars: The Clone Wars sure did. Fans of the animated series know that like Kirk, Obi-Wan always had a plan, even when he didn’t really have a plan. These two men would happily spend a night trading stories about their wildest adventures.
7 Jack Burton Knows What It’s Like To Find Big Trouble
Jack Burton, the hero of Big Trouble in Little China, may seem like your usual big-mouthed truck driver, but this commander of the Pork Chop Express has seen some things that defy all logic and lived to tell the tale. Like Obi-Wan, Jack has little problem mixing it up with the scum and villainy of Little China in San Francisco, and both men clearly have a love for greasy diner food, though Jack may be a little put off by Dexter Jettster at first.
Obi-Wan would surely love to hear Jack ramble on about his own wild adventures driving across America, and you can be sure Jack would want to get a chance to play with a lightsaber.
6 Harold And Kumar Have The Kind Of Friendship Obi-Wan Wanted
Across their own trilogy, Harold and Kumar got into a lot of arguments, but none of those disagreements ended with one of them slowly burning alive on a lava planet while the other walked away with tears in their eyes. Sadly, the same can’t be said for the friendship between Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker.
Obi-Wan would see the love that Harold and Kumar have for one another and want to be a part of it. And as the Jedi Master’s love for greasy food has already been covered, it seems likely that Obi-Wan would really like to have some White Castle with the comedic duo.
5 Jefferson Smith Is A Man Who Stands For What He Believes, Literally
Frank Capra’s Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, which stars Jimmy Stewart as the titular character, paints a picture of what we would all like to think politicians to be like. Jefferson Smith is a dedicated public servant who does whatever he can to make sure that the little guy isn’t stepped on by the big government and the less-than-kind senators who are looking to turn a buck. In the film, Smith takes on a massive undertaking of filibustering the Senate by holding the floor for hours on end, never sitting, always talking.
The kind of dedication and perseverance Jefferson Smith shows are qualities that Obi-Wan would respect. And Smith’s easygoing and kind nature would help lead the two to a fulfilling friendship.
4 Spartacus Was A Leader In A Doomed War, Just Like Obi-Wan
Spartacus was a slave who threw off his chains and led a rebellion against those who would own other men. In some ways, this very real man has a lot in common with Anakin Skywalker, but in other ways – mainly that Anakin ended up working with the bad guys – they are very different.
But when it comes to Obi-Wan, the Jedi and the revolutionary would see a lot of themselves in one another. Both men are strong, smart, and born leaders. Sadly, both fought losing wars, which is something they could surely console one another over.
3 Edward Scissorhands Is Kind, And That’s What Matters
He was built by a mad scientist and given scissors for hands, but that doesn’t mean Edward Scissorhands wasn’t worthy of love and happiness. The pale-faced creation never felt like he quite fit in with others, an issue that Jedi like Obi-Wan often feel themselves as they are kept separate from others and are not allowed to form emotional attachments.
And just like Edward Scissorhands, Obi-Wan found himself forming an emotional attachment to a woman, an attachment that ended in tragedy for both men. Obi-Wan would find himself drawn to Edward because of his kindness, and Edward would probably just like to talk to someone who would treat him like a real person.
2 Mad Max Knows What It’s Like To Be A Loner In The Desert
After the events of Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan found himself spending roughly eighteen years living as a hermit in the deserts of Tatooine. It is known that he had some adventures during his time in hiding as Ben Kenobi, but for the most part, Obi-Wan was alone.
Someone else who knows the hardships of living alone in the desert is Max Rockatansky, better known as Mad Max. While their lives – and their mental health – are quite different, these two men would surely have a lot to talk about when it comes to ways of keeping sand out of mechanical devices.
1 Elise Rainier Can See Obi-Wan, Even When He’s A Ghost
After his death at the hands of his former apprentice, Obi-Wan was able to return as a ghost and speak to Luke Skywalker, but beyond Luke and Yoda, it isn’t clear how many people the ghost of Obi-Wan can really have a conversation with.
One person who would be able to see Obi-Wan, and would probably love to have a nice chat with a good ghost instead of the horrific haunters she usually deals with, is Elise Rainier from the Insidious films. The ghost of Obi-Wan and the famous medium could stay up late drinking tea – well, Elise would drink tea – and talk about how much it stinks when a kid you saved ends up killing you.
