Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout: New Vegas brought numerous fan-favorite features from the mainline series to the spinoff and added a few of their own twists. Having the player make choices that matter has always been a crucial part of the Fallout franchise, and it is arguably what made Fallout 76 fall flat against its predecessors. These choices affect a player’s playthrough and can also dictate the story’s trajectory and how the story ends. For all of Fallout New Vega’s endings, one, in particular, stands out as the hardest to achieve.
As the Courier, players travel across the Mojave, meeting numerous potential allies and enemies, along with the factions they represent. However, instead of siding with the NCR, the Legion, Mr. House, or even taking matters into their own hands, the Courier can follow a different path as part of the Dead Money DLC and achieve a secret ending by accomplishing a handful of requirements. The Courier and Father Elijah team up to take the Mojave through deadly force by following this path. To do this, players have to fulfill a few specific requirements.
Before starting the Dead Money DLC, the NCR must vilify the Courier, and the Courier must have recruited Veronica as a companion. The Courier has to also ask Veronica about Father Elijah as well. With these prerequisites fulfilled, play through the Dead Money DLC as usual until reaching the Sierra Madre vault. Talk to Father Elijah about Veronica, and he will express his surprise and contentment with her well-being. He will tell the Courier that he wishes to kill everyone in the Mojave until it is only him who remains, and since the NCR already vilified the Courier, they can tell him that they are fine with it him killing the NCR.
With all the requirements fulfilled, Father Elijah will state that he was “too quick to put a collar on a potential ally” and open up to the Courier. The result of this is a non-standard good ending, wherein Elijah and the Courier work together. After some years, the Sierra Madre releases a blood-red cloud that rolls across the Mojave, killing everything it meets. Factions try to fight it off but to no avail. There are even talks of deadly ghosts reside in the cloud. Eventually, the NCR and Legion turn away from the Mojave, labeling the site “cursed.” The only ones left alive in the Mojave are Father Elijah and the Courier, who are biding their time until they can come out from hiding and begin their new world.
