Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s greatest heroes. He’s pretty much the total package: a great fighter, a talented scientist, and a pretty good comedian. He’s known for his heroic quest to keep innocent folks safe from dangerous villains. He’s also teamed up with everybody under the sun, even if he doesn’t always like them.
However, until recent years, Spider-Man wasn’t exactly the type to join too many teams. That all changed after his time with the New Avengers, and since then, he’s been a member of many different groups.
9 He Was Part Of The Secret Defenders During Its Short Life
The Defenders have always been one of those B-list Marvel teams that has a more developed history than most readers expect. Lots of heroes have been Defenders over the years, which created several iterations of the group. One of the least well known was the Secret Defenders, a short lived version that occurred in the ’90s.
Brought together by Doctor Strange, each issue would feature a rotating roster. Spider-Man was one of the many heroes to call themself a Secret Defender. Unfortunately, the group never really found its way and ended rather quickly.
8 Spider-Man Joined The Future Foundation In The Wake Of Human Torch’s Death
Spider-Man and the Human Torch were the best of friends, so when Torch died in the Negative Zone, Spider-Man decided to join up with the Future Foundation. This was a pretty coincidental turn of events because he had tried to join the Future Foundation when he first started out as a hero.
He helped the team out immensely, not only taking Torch’s place as the resident young person who made jokes, but also adding his scientific knowledge for the team to draw upon.
7 Spider-Man’s First Stint In The Fantastic Four Was Short Lived But Memorable
The Fantastic Four go on many dangerous missions. When the team disappeared for a long period of time, a new Future Foundation rose to take their place. Wolverine, Hulk, Ghost Rider, and Spider-Man became the Fantastic Four for a short time, teaming up to fill the shoes of one of the most powerful and skilled teams of all time.
As far as teams go, it doesn’t get much better than these four—they have a good mix of both skill and raw power. They weren’t the Future Foundation for long, but it was kind of big deal that they were able to come together in the first place.
6 After Wolverine’s Death, Spider-Man Joined The X-Men
Spider-Man teams up with a lot of heroes, although he likes some more than others. For a long time, Spider-Man and Wolverine were basically enemies. But after a stint as Avengers and a cross-time-caper, they became extremely close. When Wolverine died, Spider-Man joined the X-Men to assist in any way possible.
Joining the faculty of Wolverine’s Jean Grey School, he would help teach young mutants and go on missions with the team. Spider-Man brought years of heroic experience and scientific knowledge to the X-Men, while also honoring his dead friend in the process.
5 During Civil War, He Was A Member Of Iron Man’s Pro-Registration Forces
Civil War split the Marvel Universe in two and made heroes choose sides between Iron Man and Captain America. Leading up to the event, Iron Man took Spider-Man under his wing and became his mentor.
However, Iron Man’s side quickly proved to be the wrong one when Spider-Man realized that Iron Man was using him. He broke away from Iron Man and joined Captain America after Iron Man sent the Thunderbolts after him.
4 His Time As A New Avenger Brought Him To The Team Dance
Up until joining the New Avengers, the closest Spider-Man got to being a member of a team was short stints on the Future Foundation and Secret Defenders. However, the breakout at the Raft would change all of that. Spider-Man would join the New Avengers and find himself at the center of the Marvel Universe.
The New Avengers was full of powerful heroes and Spider-Man was a member of the team for most of its existence, from the days when it was the main Avengers team to when Luke Cage took them underground after Civil War.
3 Spider-Man Also Joined The Avengers In The Heroic Age
After the Dark Reign ended, the Avengers got redistributed. Multiple Avengers teams sprang up, including the classic Avengers. Spider-Man would be chosen to join this team and the New Avengers, giving him dual Avengers membership.
Spider-Man found himself in all different kinds of battles, from defeating the Infinity Gauntlet, to defending the frontlines against the X-Men during his time with the Avengers. Spider-Man’s time with the team kept him busy, that’s for sure.
2 He Was A Part Of The Avengers Machine
After the battle against the X-Men, the Avengers changed again, becoming the Avengers Machine. This version of the group would combine powerful heroes like Hyperion and Captain Universe with more run of the mill heroes like Shang-Chi and Spider-Man, creating a team that could deal with a variety of threats.
This version of the Avengers was the largest and most powerful, but Spider-Man’s time with the group wasn’t very long-lived. Doc Ock took over his body, and a very different, yet superior, Spider-Man took his place.
1 Spider-Man’s Time With His Spider-Verse Alternates Was Great
Spider-Man faced down a terrible threat during the Spider-Verse storyline, as Morlun and his family attacked Spider-Men and Women from around the Multiverse. Spider-Man would join up with these heroes to end the threat of Morlun once and for all.
This team proved to be pretty formidable and eventually took down Morlun and his family. Morlun wasn’t the most powerful team Spider-Man had ever been a part of, but he was one of the most skilled.
