The Suicide Squad: 10 Anime Characters Who Should Be in Task Force X

In the wake of The Suicide Squad’s popularity, fans are once again talking about this iconic team of DC supervillains. One thing the movie made clear is that just about anyone can find themself on the team. Some of the group’s weirder characters who appear in the film include Rat Catcher II, a sleepy millennial who controls rats; Weasel, a literal giant weasel; and Polka Dot Man, who is even more bizarre than his name implies.

This demonstrates that anyone can end up on Task Force X, including characters from other media like anime. From rogue Saiyans to powerful vampires, anime has an abundance of characters who would be ideal candidates for the Suicide Squad.

10 My Hero Academia: Stain Kills Heroes To Prove A Point

Hero Killer: Stain from My Hero Academia crouching on top a tower, not using his Quirk, Bloodcurdle.

My Hero Academia is an anime directly inspired by Western superhero stories. And like any great story of superheroes, there are just as many evil villains running around. Stain is a hero-killer dedicated to proving that heroes aren’t heroic at all, and that’s something he will commit any atrocity to prove.

Stain has a Quirk known as Bloodcurdle. If he consumes a person’s blood, he can paralyze them. Given his experience fighting against heroes, he would be a powerful asset to Task Force X, especially if he is able to use the team’s government resources to acquire blood samples before a mission.

9 Dragon Ball Z: Vegeta Is A Hard-Hitting Saiyan With A Lot To Atone For

The shonen series Dragon Ball Z is filled with incredible characters who battle with extreme martial arts and ki-powered energy blasts. Among the show’s most popular characters is Vegeta, a Saiyan Prince who is among the last of his race.

Vegeta came to Earth as a conqueror intent on seizing the magical Dragon Balls for himself. However, he soon joined the heroes in their battle against an even more dangerous foe, the alien warlord Frieza. As a former villain, Vegeta has a lot of blood on his hands and a lot to atone for. Task Force X could be a way for him to use his powers for good.

8 A Certain Scientific Railgun: Touma Kamijou Inverts Others’ Powers With Imagine Breaker

The Suicide Squad finds a way to make use of characters with wildly divergent power sets and levels of experience. Trained assassins, alien warriors, and humanoid animals might all be on the same version of the team, and that’s not even getting into characters with really weird powers.

Touma Kamijou is a character in A Certain Scientific Railgun who has a power that is simultaneously unique and incredibly useful. With his “Imagine Breaker” ability, he can negate the magical and psychic attacks of others. It seems likely that this would also negate many of the other superpowers used by DC characters.

7 Tokyo Ghoul: Ken Kaneki Spreads Terror As A Violent Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul Closeup

When Tokyo Ghoul‘s protagonist Ken Kaneki is nearly killed in an accident, he is given organ transplants, but the organs are from a Ghoul, effectively turning him into a half-Ghoul.

Ken undergoes dramatic transformations throughout the series, losing his humanity as he becomes crueler and more powerful. His powers could make him a particularly efficient killer for the Suicide Squad, while his experiences as both a human and Ghoul could bridge the knowledge gap between the two species.

6 Hellsing: Alucard Is Basically Britain’s Mystical Equivalent Of Task Force

Alucard Smiling

The vampire Alucard in Hellsing was once none other than the legendary Vlad Dracula. At some point in the past, he was bound to the service of England’s Royal Order of Protestant Knights. He serves Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, a young noblewoman in charge of the Protestant Knights, who sends Alucard to fight against various supernatural creatures.

In many ways, Alucard is already doing the same work as the Suicide Squad. The Royal Order of Protestant Knights compels him to kill vampires, werewolves, and undead Nazis, not unlike how the members of Task Force X are coerced into service.

5 Joran: The Princess Of Snow And Blood: Sawa Yukimura Is A Secret Executioner

Anime Jouran The Princess Of Snow And Blood Ready

Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood is an anime series that came out earlier this year, set in an alternate version of Japan in the 1930s. The demure-looking Sawa Yukimura works at a bookshop and carries a dainty parasol. However, she is secretly a killer working for a secret police force known as the Nue. Her parasol has a blade hidden within it, and she can activate powers within her blood to shapeshift and heal her wounds. The Suicide Squad has included characters who wield medieval weapons, which means Sawa would also be welcomed.

4 Yasuke: Achoja Uses Magic To Call On His Ancestors

The historical Yasuke was the first person from outside Japan and the only person not of Japanese descent to become a samurai. However, there were quite a number of people from Africa living in Japan at the time, especially in port cities.

In Netflix’s Yasuke anime series, the character Achoja is another African who encounters the protagonist, first as an enemy and later as an ally. He uses magic to call upon the spirits of his ancestors to aid him. His mystical powers are perfect for handling large crowds of enemies as he can conjure multiple spirits at once to fight.

3 Akira: Tetsuo Is A Psionic Gangster

Tetsuo Sits On His Throne

One of Akira‘s main characters is Tetsuo, a teenage boy in a motorcycle gang who manifests psychic powers early in the film. After the Neo-Tokyo government captures and experiments on Tetsuo, he breaks free and uses his powers to lash out at those who hurt him. In a particularly disturbing scene, he fuses his body with machinery. Then, he unleashes a deadly blast against the people of Neo-Tokyo, destroying the city.

Things would’ve been different if he had instead been captured by the US government and made part of the Suicide Squad. By simply implanting a bomb in his head, the government could control him. If he tried to resist, the bomb would be able to stop him from before he used his powers.

2 Devilman: Akira Can Turn Into A Devil

Akira from Devilman Crybaby

There have been a lot of different Devilman anime series over the years, including Netflix’s Devilman: Crybaby. When crybaby protagonist Akira Fudo is nearly possessed by a devil, Akira gains the abilities of a devil but maintains his mental faculties. In addition to superhuman physical abilities, he has various shapeshifting and other supernatural abilities.

Joining the Suicide Squad is already akin to making a deal with the devil, as the villains make a pact to do horrible things to get the freedom they desire. Akira knows all about those kinds of deals and has survived far worse.

1 Ruroni Kenshin: Himura Kenshin Is A Samurai Assassin Seeking Redemption

rurouni kenshin

Himura Kenshin is a former assassin who fought in the Boshin Wars. After the war’s end, he became a wandering ronin, carrying a reverse-edged katana as he worked to atone for his bloody past. Kenshin is an incredibly popular character, and his fourth and fifth live-action films were released earlier this year.

In his quest for redemption, Kenshin has frequently battled against violent enemies and teamed up with other fighters. Task Force X is always in need of assassins, and Kenshin is far more ethical than most.
