In a cast packed with incredible talent, Daniel Radcliffe said he was starstruck by only one of his Harry Potter co-stars.
During an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, when asked if he was starstruck by the Harry Potter franchise’s incredible cast, Radcliffe explained that it’s hard to be starstruck by the likes of Maggie Smith, Richard Harris and Alan Rickman as a child. “Well, now I’m like aware of who they are in a much more significant way than I was when I was nine or ten,” Radcliffe said. “At the time I wasn’t starstruck by any of those people. The first person I remember being starstruck by was Gary Oldman, ’cause that was the age when I was aware of who he was and his work and also getting more serious about acting myself so, yeah, before that when you meet someone as a nine-year-old it’s sort of hard to like, gain starstruckness of them later on.”
Radcliffe appeared on The Late Show to promote his current show Miracle Workers: Oregon Trail. The TBS comedy, wherein an ensemble cast tackles a new storyline every season, is currently in its third season, with Radcliffe currently starring as Ezekial Brown.
At the age of 11, Radcliffe was cast as the titular Harry Potter in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone and went on to play the character for the next ten years until the eighth and final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II in 2011. Recently, with rumors swirling about a potential Harry Potter series on HBO Max, Radcliffe revealed that in a potential reboot, he would like to return to the Wizarding World as either Sirius Black or Remus Lupin, originally played by Oldman and David Thewlis, respectively, in the original films.
“Those were always the two characters that I was like ‘They’re great,'” Radcliffe said. “And also like, I’m obviously biased by my experience of filming those scenes, with those people, and they’re like some of my favorite memories.”
This November is the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone‘s release in theaters, and Warner Bros. has announced several Harry Potter-themed celebrations, including a re-release of the film on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD, which is currently available for purchase. All eight Harry Potter films are available on DVD and Blu-ray and are currently streaming on Peacock.
