Released in 2013, Disney Infinity was part of the toys-to-life video game trend, similar to Lego Dimensions and Skylanders. Developed by Avalanche Software, the game allowed players to collect figures based on Disney original characters, Star Wars, and Marvel to explore and create various fun worlds.
Several Marvel characters were included in the line based on a mix of live-action and comic book-style interpretations. Most of the ones you would expect to find were there, such as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and more, but plenty of iconic heroes and villains were nowhere to be found. If Disney Infinity had continued beyond 2016, there are some characters who absolutely should have received their own figure and place within the game.
10 War Machine Should Have Been Included In The Original Release
James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes suited up in the War Machine armor for the first time on the big screen in 2010’s Iron Man 2, and there’s been no shortage of merchandise featuring his likeness since. Considering that the Marvel wave of Infinity figures hit the shelves in 2014, it’s surprising that War Machine wasn’t included.
Gameplay-wise he would function similar to Iron Man, with flight and long-range missiles, but could also have featured more over-the-top ranged attacks thanks to the number of guns attached to that suit of his. If they could have taken inspiration from Captain America: Civil War, his trusty baton could have been included. An alternate skin for the Iron Patriot armor would have only improved the figure.
9 Nebula Needs To Join Her Surrogate Family
2017s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 saw tortured former-villain Nebula put her past behind her and make amends with her sister, Gamora. This path to redemption led to her working with the Avengers to undo Thanos’ actions later down the line. Seeing as the rest of the Guardians got their own figure (even Yondu), it was rather odd to leave out Nebula.
Granted, she wasn’t the only one not to be included, as Mantis was also neglected, but Nebula is a much bigger part of the franchise. To make her distinct from Gamora in-game, she could have utilized more ranged attacks as well as her melee weapons.
8 Mysterio Would Fit The Visual Style Perfectly
The classic villain Mysterio finally made his big-screen debut in 2019s Spider-Man: Far From Home and became a fan-favorite antagonist. His outlandish appearance is such a perfect fit for the style of Disney Infinity and his abilities would be great fun for players.
Mysterio would excel at ranged attacks with his “powers”, as his drones would do all the dirty work behind his illusions. This could allow him to utilize flame and water attacks along with magic, however, the drones could occasionally glitch and reveal the truth behind the smokescreen. An alternate skin revealing his true mocap-suit would be a treat as well.
7 The Fan-Favorite Korg Needs His Own Figure
Nobody went into Thor: Ragnarok expecting their new favorite character of all time to be Korg, but that’s what happened for most viewers in 2017. Taiki Waititi voiced the loveable Kronan gladiator and who could resist trying to start a rebellion in the Disney sandbox while coming out with a few classic Korg lines.
Korg’s gameplay would have likely been focused mainly on melee and his physical strength, with his Sakaaran weapon providing limited long-rage use. Perhaps some kind of tag-team element could be worked in with his good friend Miek, who could also be worked into the Korg figure for a 2-in-1 special.
6 Valkyrie Is A Worthy Addition To The Figure Line-Up
A second stand-out character from Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie (as played by Tessa Thompson) would be another perfect fit for the world(s) of Disney Infinity. She became the king of New Asgard at the end of Avengers: Endgame and should be standing beside her fellow heroes in the sandbox.
Valkyrie’s inclusion could also allow for her winged steed to appear as a rideable animal, similar to others already present in the game. The difference here is, her horse has wings. She could have a special attack that calls in the awesome fireworks display from the final battle in Asgard and she has 2 obvious skins to work with.
5 Scarlet Witch Is The Strongest Avenger
Wanda Maximoff debuted in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and since then has managed to take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Mad Titan Thanos without much effort. Her status in pop culture has skyrocketed thanks to the hit Disney Plus series WandaVision in recent months.
Wanda, AKA The Scarlet Witch, would certainly have been featured in the Disney Infinity line if it had continued, and she would have been a fun hero to play as. Her chaos magic could allow her to manipulate the environment and turn objects into weapons, and perhaps she could briefly possess enemy NPC’s to turn on each other and assist the player.
4 Captain Marvel Would Be A Powerful Addition
Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel, could almost be considered The Avenger’s answer to Superman. That alone justifies her inclusion in the game and the toy line. She does have a cameo as an NPC in the 2.0 version of Infinity, however.
Captain Marvel has it all, she can fly, has super strength, and can shoot powerful energy blasts from her hands to take down waves of enemies. If anything, she might be too strong to provide any fair challenge in the game, but she sure would be fun to take for a spin.
3 Dr. Strange Would Be A Fantastic Character To Play As
Dr. Strange not being included in the Infinity family makes little sense. Not only would he make for such an eye-catching figure for display, but he could come with a playset to allow for magical-themed story missions in the game. The chance to team up with Wong and deliver some mystical justice would make for a great gaming experience.
Gameplay-wise, Strange would admittedly be similar to Scarlet Witch. Flight, energy projection, and other similar powers of that nature, but the chance to play with all that as Marvel’s sorcerer supreme would be more than enough for fans. His special moves could allow for some more unique flare such as creating duplicates of himself to confuse enemies.
2 Thanos Missed Out On Joining His Fellow Villains
The Mad Titan himself, Thanos, was the greatest threat the universe had ever encountered in Avengers: Infinity War. He would make the perfect antagonist for a new story campaign that could feature the rest of his Black Order and minions to battle. As a figure, he’d fit in well with other larger characters such as the Hulk and Venom.
If he came equipped with the infinity stones, players could utilize their various abilities and have endless fun in the Disney toybox. If that seemed a bit too over-powered, then his huge sword from Avengers: Endgame would more than compensate for the absence of the stones.
1 Including Stan Lee Would Be A Beautiful Tribute
Like with the Lego Marvel series and The Amazing Spider-Man tie-in game, Stan Lee himself would make for an amazing addition to gameplay and the figure collection. With countless hours of interviews and voice-over examples to work from, Stan’s iconic voice could return and put a smile on players’ faces. Even better, perhaps the figures could come as variants, one regular Stan in his casual getup, one in his astronaut outfit as seen in GotG Vol.2, and another in his wacky Thor: Ragnarok look.
In-game, these variants would likely play the same way but would incorporate their unique appearance for a bit of extra fun. If he borrowed some key powers from his famous creations, Stan Lee would be an awesome hybrid character full of witty catchphrases. A lovely tribute to the man behind the Marvel.
