In anime, there have been many instances that required both heroes and villains alike to disguise themselves. Their main goal is usually to either blend in with the crowd or to let someone’s guard down. Although the intentions of these characters are not always pure, it is still hilarious to see them in obvious, transparent disguises.
Some of these disguises do little to alter the character’s appearance. This is even funnier when the disguise somehow works, against all odds. Thanks to the complete obliviousness or lack of caring of the others around them, these disguises usually pay off.
10 One Piece: Luffy Bought Foxy’s Awful Disguise
When the Straw Hats came across Foxy, every member of the crew recognized him instantly. Despite the long green wig and mask, his mouth, forcibly high-pitched voice, and prominent nose gave away the fact that he wasn’t actually a woman. However, Luffy completely bought the disguise, even when his friends pointed out the flaws. Even Foxy was surprised that the disguise was so successful.
9 Demon Slayer: Tanjiro, Inosuke, & Zenitsu Managed To Pass Themselves Off As Women
Although these infamous disguises have yet to hit the anime, fans are looking forward to seeing this horrid scene in color later this year. In order to determine the location of a demon and Tengen Uzui’s wives, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke went undercover as women.
Inosuke passed as a convincing woman as long as he never spoke, but Tanjiro and Zenitsu were not convincing at all. However, no one accused them of being men because Tanjiro was a hard worker, and some women could relate to Zenitsu’s anger.
8 Sailor Moon: Jadeite’s Disguises Were As Bad As The Sailor Scouts’
Jadeite was overconfident in his abilities to defeat the Sailor Scouts, but he lost against them every single time. He used various disguises, which were only slightly better than those of the Sailor Scouts. He had a tendency to wear glasses and different outfits while in disguise, and somehow, his disguises often worked. It was hilarious to see Jadeite and Sailor Moon interact on friendly terms while in poor disguises.
7 Ranma 1/2: Ranma Saotome Pretended To Be Ryoga’s Sister
In order to get in the way of Ryoga Hibiki’s time with Akane Tendo, Ranma assumed his female form and introduced himself as Ryoga’s sister. Despite the fact that Ryoga has seen Ranma in his female form before, he completely fell for the act. Since his family has a terrible sense of direction, they all get so hopelessly lost that they almost never see each other. All Ranma had to do was wear some fake fangs, and Ryoga only realized it was Ranma after they were removed.
6 Seven Deadly Sins: Meliodas, King, & Ban Slightly Altered Their Names
Melidafu, Baan, and Old Fart are names of people who are terrible at hiding their true identities. Despite having such transparent secret identities, all three men are able to participate in the Vaizel Fight Festival.
They were mainly able to get away with this thanks to the inaccuracies of their wanted posters. Although some people expressed their suspicions, no one really was certain about their real identities until Meliodas unveiled himself in his attempt to save them.
5 My Hero Academia: Deku’s Tough Guy Persona Should Have Drawn More Attention
In order to avoid standing out in the shopping district, a small group of U.A. students decided that they needed to disguise themselves. Deku’s first attempt to do so was abysmal, as it only involved crossing his arms over his face. They then bought clothes at extremely cheap prices and got exactly what they paid for. Deku’s disguise remained the worst, as he continuously shouted “Hey you!” to he practiced his tough-guy persona. However, their disguises managed to work.
4 Pokémon: Ditto Managed To Fool People Despite Its Beady Eyes
Ditto’s transformations are not always flawless, since it often keeps the same eyes and mouth from its original form. Despite these two dead giveaways, Ditto was able to fool both Ash and his Rotom Pokédex. Ditto mimicked Rotom’s physical appearance, making everyone assume that there were some mirrors in the area. Despite the fact that Rotom was close enough to see Ditto’s beady little eyes, it was completely fooled.
3 Assassination Classroom: Koro-Sensei Wore Multiple Disguises To Get Things For Free
Koro-Sensei’s students lovingly crafted a video that was intended to humiliate him. Within that video, it was revealed that he wore human disguises in order to get free things. He stood in line to get some free tissues, disguising himself as a woman, a student, a businessman, and a baseball player. He was able to get all of the complimentary tissues that he wanted and ended up frying them up to eat.
2 Code Geass: Euphemia li Britannia Wore Sunglasses & A Hat To A School Festival
Euphemia, despite being a princess with very noticeable long pink hair, chose to go to a school festival. All she did was wear some sunglasses and a hat in order to conceal her identity. This was somehow enough to work, despite the fact that the people who accompanied her referred to her by her title. She managed to fool most people until the wind happened to blow her hat off, making her suddenly easy to recognize.
1 Dragon Ball: Nam Impersonated Master Roshi
Although many people remember Master Roshi’s hilarious disguise, Jackie Chun, Nam pulled off a similar disguise that somehow worked. In order to keep his other identity a secret, Roshi asked Nam to impersonate him in the crowd of tournament onlookers. Roshi wanted his students to think that there were more people out there who were stronger than them so that they would continue to train diligently. Since Roshi had helped Nam save his village, Nam was glad to do so. However, Nam’s skin tone is vastly different from Roshi’s.
