Katsuki Bakugo is probably the most reckless hero among the huge cast of characters in My Hero Academia. His short temper and constant anger at just about everyone and everything, combined with his Quirk, make him a dangerous foe to go up against.
However, there is no doubt that Bakugo has potential as a hero. Despite his rage, he still believes in doing the right thing and knows which side of the law he wants to fight for. As a result, his reckless behavior has led him to some truly dangerous situations in which he put his own life on the line, ignoring the consequences.
10 Bakugo & Midoriya Take On The Number One Hero
During the final exams story arc, Bakugo and Midoriya find themselves teaming up to pass the test by overcoming All Might. The Number One Hero does not hold back in this fight, as he is fully aware of his students’ combined strength.
The boys are barely able to hold their own against All Might, even together. Both are severely injured during the fight, and Bakugo nearly takes the full force of All Might’s attacks. However, they are able to escape together and pass the exam.
9 Bakugo & Kirishima Charge Into Battle
While at the Unforeseen Simulation Joint training facility, Class 1-A is ambushed by the League of Villains, including Kurogiri. Thirteen, a faculty member of UA High, attempts to use her black hole Quirk to stop Kurogiri only for Bakugo and Kirishima to rush in and attack.
The two students land an impressive blow on Kurogiri, but the villain is unfazed. He then uses his power to warp the students into different locations, separating them from each other. Bakugo and Kirishima’s recklessness could have cost them not only their own lives but also the lives of their fellow students. However, everyone is lucky to make it out of the fight okay.
8 Bakugo Becomes A Meatball
In one of the series’ stranger fights, Bakugo, Kirishima, and Kaminari go up against Seiji Shishikura, a student from the rival Shiketsu High School. Shishikura’s Quirk, “Meatball,” allows him to transform people’s entire bodies into balls of flesh. After transforming Kirishima into one of these meatballs, Shishikura demonstrates that these lumps of flesh are still conscious.
Over the course of the fight, Bakugo is hit and transformed as well. He could’ve been done for at this moment, but thanks to Kaminari and his Sharpshooter equipment, Shishikura is defeated with ease.
7 Bakugo Puts Himself In Harm’s Way
The joint training arc sees Bakugo demonstrating just how far he’s come since the beginning of the series. During the fourth battle, the opposing team targets Jiro, but just before their attack can land, Bakugo puts himself between her and Kamakiri.
Although he puts himself in harm’s way to protect Jiro, he continues to focus on winning first and foremost. He blasts Kamakiri away and then immediately goes into a classic Bakugo rant about how he and his team are going to claim complete victory in the fight, with no injuries on their side.
6 Bakugo Underestimates Ochaco
During the sports festival arc, Bakugo finds himself going up against many tough opponents who he wouldn’t normally fight. One, in particular, is Ochaco Uraraka. Bakugo makes it clear that he is not going to go easy on her just because she is a girl, something that gains Ochaco’s respect. She wants to be seen as an equal which is exactly what he is giving her.
True to his word, the fight is brutal and Bakugo does not hold back. He goes all out on Ochaco, who spends the fight levitating bits of rubble above them. She effectively creates a meteor shower which she brings down on Bakugo. If he hadn’t reacted quickly and blasted every chunk to pieces, he surely would have been crushed by Ochaco’s power.
5 Bakugo Wins The Sports Festival
Ochaco was just one of many fights that take place during the sports festival arc. Bakugo ends up in the final showdown, going up against Shoto Todoroki. While the fight is relatively short-lived and Bakugo comes out on top, it is clear to any viewer that Todoroki should have won.
Todoroki effectively has two Quirks, fire and ice. However, due to his strained relationship with his father, he refused to use the fire side of his power during the fight. He could’ve easily overpowered Bakugo and likely would have killed him with his immense power. But his hesitation causes him to lose.
4 Bakugo Is Kidnapped By The League Of Villains
After seeing how Bakugo fights, the League of Villains sees him as an opportunity and concocts a plan to kidnap him, which they are successful in doing. Once they have him, they attempt to explain their situation and why they want him to join them. However, Bakugo’s unwavering desire to become like All Might is more powerful than they could have anticipated.
As soon as they free him from his restraints, Bakugo throws explosions in Shigaraki’s face. The attack catches the leader of the League off guard and could have very well led to Bakugo’s death if Shigaraki hadn’t ordered the villains to stand down.
3 Bakugo Nearly Succumbs To The Sludge Villain
In the second episode of the series, the Sludge Villain nearly kills Bakugo. This weak villain made of a thick, mud-like substance is captured by All Might in the first episode but it escapes. It then finds Bakugo and takes over his body, using his explosion Quirk to wreak havoc on the city.
This leads to an unforgettable moment when the Quirkless Midoriya charges in, trying to save Bakugo, despite his own life being in danger. Both of the boys would have likely died in this first fight had All Might not stepped in and saved them both.
2 Bakugo Single-Handedly Faces The League Of Villains
After All Might and All For One begin their battle during Bakugo’s rescue, the League of Villains surrounds Bakugo with the intention of recapturing him. However, they greatly underestimate his skill as he easily holds his own in a six-on-one fight. Despite this, he knows he cannot keep fighting them forever.
Understanding that they’ll overwhelm him eventually and that All Might is currently holding back to ensure Bakugo’s safety, he realizes he needs to escape. He would have been done for, but at that moment, Ida, Midoriya, and Kirishima come blasting through a wall and into the air, providing Bakugo an escape route. He uses his explosions to propel himself into the air and grabs onto Kirishima’s hand, narrowly avoiding doom.
1 Bakugo Holds His Own Against One For All
Following the Provisional Hero License Exam, Bakugo fails and Midoriya passes. Having deduced that Midoriya’s Quirk came from All Might, Bakugo asks to speak to him privately later that night. As their conversation grows more heated, Bakugo demands that they fight. Although Midoriya is hesitant at first, Bakugo attacks him anyway.
Considering Deku’s power comes from the world’s Number One Hero, as well as his inexperience, it is very likely he could have unintentionally fatally wounded Bakugo in their fight. However, thanks to Bakugo’s own immense power and strength, they are able to fight on equal ground.
