The SpongeBob SquarePants franchise is getting 52 new episodes across its mothership series and two spinoffs.
Per Deadline, Nickelodeon has extended SpongeBob SquarePants, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years and The Patrick Star Show for a combined 52 episodes. First and foremost, SpongeBob SquarePants Season 13 has received a 13-episode back order. Similarly, The Patrick Star Show Season 1 has received a 13-episode extension. Finally, Kamp Koral has also received a 13-episode back order for Season 1, with the CG-animated spinoff also getting a 13-episode Season 2 pickup.
Created by the late, great Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob SquarePants is one of Nickelodeon’s most enduring shows, having premiered on the network all the way back in 1999. At the time of this writing, SpongeBob has aired a total of 268 episodes and has three feature films under its belt.
The very first SpongeBob spinoff, Kamp Koral, premiered on the Paramount+ streaming service in March of this year. Spinning out of the franchise’s third film, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, Kamp Koral is a CG-animated prequel that follows younger versions of SpongeBob SquarePants‘ key characters during their time at summer camp.
A second spinoff, The Patrick Star Show, followed suit in July. Unlike Kamp Koral, The Patrick Star Show premiered on Nickelodeon proper and is animated in the show’s traditional 2D style. The spinoff follows SpongeBob’s best friend, the titular Patrick Star, who hosts a talk show alongside his starfish family.
