Attack On Titan: 5 Characters Reiner Could Defeat (& 5 He’d Lose To)

There are many powerful characters in Attack on Titan, with Reiner being among the strongest. Not only is he an inheritor of the Armored Titan, but he also had a lot more training than other characters in the series since he was both in Marley’s Warrior Unit and Paradis’ 104th Cadet Corps.

Because of this, fans knew him as one of the strongest characters in the beginning chapters of the manga series, even being able to join the Military Police if he had wanted to. However, even though he can defeat many of Attack on Titan‘s other characters, there are some he would easily lose to.

10 REINER COULD DEFEAT: Bertholdt Would Hold Back Against His Best Friend

Bertholdt cold stare

Bertholdt is Reiner’s best friend. Since the beginning of the manga, Reiner and Bertholdt seemed to be the main antagonists, though nobody knew that they were the Armored and Colossal Titans at the time. The Colossal Titan is considered to be a God of Destruction since it can kill many people simply by transforming. However, Bertholdt rarely used his powers, and most of the time, he did what Reiner told him to do. If it weren’t for Reiner’s orders, Bertholdt may have even died earlier in the series, so he would definitely hold back if he were to fight his leader.

9 WOULD LOSE TO: Annie Has Special Abilities From Marley’s Experimentation

Attack on Titan Annie smiling

Annie, the inheritor of the Female Titan, had gone to Paradis with Reiner and Bertholdt in order to take the Founding Titan. However, she disagreed with Reiner on a lot of things and, up until the final chapters of the manga, hated him. When they arrived at Paradis and abandoned Marcel, Annie beat Reiner up.

In addition, she was able to survive against the Survey Corps in multiple battles at the beginning of the series, and some of her abilities were actually given to her through Marley experimenting on the Female and Armored Titans. So if the two were to turn against each other, Annie would easily be the winner.

8 REINER COULD DEFEAT: Jean Doesn’t Have The Power Of A Titan Shifter Or An Ackerman

Jean from Attack on Titan

Jean was one of Reiner’s friends before learning who he really was, and the two had a complicated relationship moving forward, especially since Reiner killed Marco, Jean’s best friend. Though they could have both gone to the Military Police since they proved to be two of the ten strongest soldiers in the 104th Cadet Corps, Jean wouldn’t be able to defeat Reiner since he isn’t a titan shifter or an Ackerman.

7 WOULD LOSE TO: Zeke Has Beaten Reiner Before

Not only would Reiner lose to the Beast Titan, but he actually already has. Zeke fought Reiner in order to determine how they would proceed in their mission when he went to Paradis and beat up Reiner pretty badly. There have also been times where the Survey Corps was a huge threat to Reiner, even after he joined them, while Zeke was able to kill most of the soldiers when he first met them.

This makes a lot of sense seeing as how he is a direct descendant of Ymir Fritz and is an inheritor of the Beast Titan, which is more of an offensive titan than the Armored Titan is. Because of that, Reiner actually defends Zeke when the two of them fight on the same team.

6 REINER COULD DEFEAT: Armin Isn’t Physically Strong Enough

Armin may not be the strongest character in the series physically, but he is one of the smartest. In fact, he was so smart that he was able to figure out that Reiner was the Armored Titan, as well as the identities of the Female and Colossal Titans. Before they became enemies, Reiner actually helped Armin out a lot, especially when they were training to become soldiers. If the two of them were to ever fight, the only thing that could save Armin would be a well-thought-out plan.

5 WOULD LOSE TO: Levi Has Too Much Experience In Fighting Titans & Titan Shifters

Levi smiling

Levi may not be a titan shifter, but he is an Ackerman. Known as humanity’s strongest soldier, Levi has killed many titans throughout the franchise and has fought titan shifters without breaking a sweat. Reiner always knew that Levi was a threat and warned his comrades about him. For the majority of the series, Reiner would certainly lose. However, toward the end of the manga, Levi was severely injured, so Reiner would have had a chance then, though it wouldn’t be a fair fight.

4 REINER COULD DEFEAT: Pieck’s Cart Titan Isn’t Suitable For Combat

Pieck _ Hooded _ Attack on Paradis _ Attack on Titan

Pieck is the inheritor of the Cart Titan, so even though she’s a titan shifter, she doesn’t have many abilities that are great for combat. She’s actually the weakest of the Nine Titans, being used as a way to transport supplies and warriors who fight with her.

In a fight against Reiner, Pieck only has the advantage in speed since she walks on all fours, and support from people fighting for her. Neither of those advantages would be much of a threat to the Armored Titan, though.

3 WOULD LOSE TO: Mikasa Has Almost Killed Reiner Multiple Times

mikasa aot

Like Levi, Mikasa is an incredibly powerful Ackerman. When the two of them were training at the beginning of the series, she proved to be stronger than Reiner, being the best soldier in the 104th Cadet Corps. She almost killed him, as well as Bertholdt, moments before they transformed. Reiner was almost killed again in a battle against some of the Survey Corps members, including Mikasa, at Shiganshina. There weren’t many times where Reiner was able to stop her, proving once more that the Ackermans could defeat titan shifters.

2 REINER COULD DEFEAT: Ymir Was Never As Good Of A Fighter

Ymir was one of the few people in Paradis who knew about Marley, and because of that, she was able to understand Reiner more than other Survey Corps soldiers. However, before they joined the military, she had almost eaten him when he began his mission. Instead, Marcel sacrificed his life to save Reiner, which gave Ymir the powers of his Jaw Titan, though she never became as good of a fighter as him or Reiner. Though Reiner could beat her in a battle, she was stronger in other ways, easily being able to get under his skin and sacrificing her life and desires to help him and Bertholdt make Marley proud.

1 WOULD LOSE TO: Eren Was Too Strong With The Coordinate’s Power

Eren looked up to Reiner at the beginning of the series, especially due to how much Reiner helped him in the 104th Cadet Corps. He was shocked to find out that the person he considered to be an older brother was a mass murderer. After that, Reiner became his greatest enemy until he became just like him.

Accepting that he was a monster to the world in the same way that Reiner was a monster to Paradis, Eren inherited the War Hammer Titan, turned Paradis’ citizens against the military, began the Rumbling, and killed most of humanity. Reiner would never have been able to defeat him, at least not on his own, which is something that he realized when Eren first used the coordinate to get normal titans to attack him.
