A Red Dead Online Player Is Taking Care of the Game’s KKK Problem

Red Dead OnlineRockstar Games‘ beloved online RPG based in the world of Red Dead Redemption, allows players to roleplay as all manner of characters and travel the wild and lawless west. Unfortunately, many players have used this feature to harass other online players by roleplaying as members of the KKK, and one player has taken it upon themselves to fix the issue.

As reported by GameRant, this player has gone viral on TikTok for enacting vigilante justice on the klansmen impersonators, taking up arms “to either kill them outright or let the players they’re harassing get away.” The player’s most recent endeavor posted on their TikTok, captioned “hunting racist players in Red Dead Online part 16,” involves them sneaking up on a meeting of the KKK roleplayers. The player dispatches nine followers with an explosive bow before stabbing their leader in the resulting chaos, all while the BARRXN trap remix of Tennessee Ernie Ford’s Union Dixie plays in the background.

The video, with a heading that says “stay dead,” has reached nearly 30k likes and ends with the promise of Part 17. Previous videos from the vigilante player, posted on the TikTok channel “@umbrellaboy,” show the gamer assassinating klansmen roleplayers all across the online world before freeing the players and NPCs that have been kidnapped.

The presence of KKK roleplayers in Red Dead Online has been a consistent problem that does not yet have a permanent fix. Rockstar Games has taken steps by removing KKK NPCs and banning any hackers who attempt to summon them, but so far these fixes have been temporary at best. Still, even with the prevalent harassment by the racist roleplayers in question, players have found ways to equal the playing field.

While there have been comments online claiming that @umbrellaboy’s videos are staged — mostly due to the ease with which they seem to be able to find and dispatch the racist players — the response to watching online klansmen getting ambushed has been overwhelmingly positive. Additionally, the message against the racist actions of players in Red Dead Online has garnered large support and attention from the community.

Following the release of @umbrellaboy’s 16th vigilante video, they also released a video thanking their viewers for helping them reach 100k followers with a caption that promises “more hunts when they stop hiding.”

Red Dead Online is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
