Futurama: Every Main Character’s Fate At The End Of The Series

Ever since the cult classic animated series Futurama came to a conclusion all the way back in 2013, die-hard fans have been begging for more episodes. The main reason for wanting a return is the fact that they left the series completely wide open. Groening and company essentially used the final sequence to indicate to fans that everything will be reset once Fry and Leela step through the time portal.

This would suggest that if Futurama were to ever return, it would be a brand new series, perhaps taking place in an alternate universe from the first one. However, taking a step back to before Fry froze time permanently, based on their life experiences so far, most of the main characters had bright futures ahead of them.

11 Scruffy, The Janitor, would have likely continued janitorial work for the Professor until the Professor died

Scruffy is the loyal janitor for the Planet Express delivery business that the Professor has owned for years. He believes in the company and even had significantly more shares in the company than any of the other employees.

Had time never stopped, Scruffy would have likely continued janitorial work for the Professor until the Professor died or was whisked away to the Near-Death Star. Assuming Cubert continued the company, Scruffy would likely stay on until retirement and settle down with Wash Bucket.

10 Inspector/Bureaucrat Hermes Conrad (& His Family) would likely maintain his accountant duties at Planet Express until he retired

Hermes is a wildly bureaucratic person, doing his job by its description to a T. He also wastes plenty of time abiding by silly bureaucratic rules and procedures as it’s his duty to uphold the rules.

Hermes would likely maintain his accountant duties at Planet Express until he retired as well. He would perhaps constantly be trying to keep his wife from Barbados Slim and would hopefully be able to send Dwight off to Mars University one day. After retirement, Conrad and LaBarbara would eventually settle down in whatever version of Jamaica exists in the future and live out their days there.

9 The Wildly Incompentant Dr. John A. Zoidberg would likely continue to live in the dumpster in the alley until Cubert kicked him out

Dr. Zoidberg has been friends with the Professor ever since they were both recruited by Mom to capture the pineal gland of the Neptunian Yeti. Zoidberg would likely continue to live in the dumpster in the alley until Cubert kicked him out once the Professor was gone.

Assuming he was still with that lovely young flower peddler, they could move into a proper home together, assuming she makes decent money as a trash collector. Zoidberg would finally get his happily ever after and the crew would finally be rid of their terrible doctor.

8 A High Ranking Fuzzler By The Name Of Lord Nibbler may return to his homeworld of Eternium

Nibbler Futurama

Nibbler may not have been formally introduced until Season 4, but he is one of the few characters that actually makes an appearance in the pilot episode. With Fry and Leela potentially still getting married in the end, Nibbler may return to his homeworld of Eternium.

He would likely keep close watch over the Earth from there and enjoy meals of animals many times larger than himself. With the way the show has gone, there would likely be another universal crisis down the line that Fry and/or Leela would have to help the Niblonians with.

7 The Cut Throat Business Woman, Carol Miller, AKA Mom, would probably run her company

Mom is an incredibly shrewd businesswoman that has no business raising any children with the way she abuses her boys, but her public persona is a sweet wholesome old woman, which is likely how she maintains her bottom line. She also dated the Professor for a brief on and off period before firing him from her robot company.

Despite having one of her three sons with Hubert, she constantly tries to undercut him and his business. She would likely live longer than the Professor due to her vast wealth and then probably run her company as a head in a jar rather than leave it to her sons.

6 Heir To The Wong Fortune, Dr. Amy Wong-Kroker would likely leave the company

Amy Wong is a ditzy scientist who has been studying under Professor Farnsworth for more years than necessary in order to earn her Ph.D. As the other members of the Planet Express crew leave the company, she would likely leave as well, though probably much later than everyone else, per usual.

Given that she saved the Earth by reinstating its rotation, she wouldn’t have a hard time finding a job in the science community. She might even work with Professor Bubblegum Tate or perhaps find a job with DOOP so she could travel with her beloved Kif. Though eventually, they would settle down as a family once their offspring had grown from their tadpole stage.

5 Fourth Lieutenant Kif Kroker would likely retire with great benefits

Kif Kroker is a rather bland individual, but he does have his moments when he isn’t being stifled by his commanding officer, Zapp Brannigan. Kif and Amy fall in love against all odds and even get married and have a gaggle of offspring by accident (though they actually might be Leela’s).

After a long career in the DOOP military, Kif would likely retire with great benefits. He and Amy would then maybe move to Amphibios 9 where their children would be emerging from the swamp after so many years. They would likely live a little-house-on-the-swamp lifestyle until Kif entered the final stage of his lifecycle as a colony of flying hookworms.

4 25 Star General Zapp Brannigan would retire, & likely cry for a long time after hearing about Fry & Leela

Zapp Brannigan is perhaps the most decorated general in DOOP history while simultaneously being the biggest fool to ever lead their forces. He would likely continue his streak of sacrificing wave after wave of his own men in order to reap the resources and riches of other worlds that have no strategic value whatsoever.

Eventually, Zapp would retire, and likely cry for a long time after hearing about Fry and Leela, but would then try to sabotage their relationship in a wild effort to somehow steal her away. Zapp would eventually give up after so many beatings from Leela. He would likely retire and live a fabulous lifestyle with a huge pension, but would probably end up alone.

3 Turanga Leela & Philip J. Fry would stay together until their old age

Futurama Ending Fry Leela Old Portal

Leela & Fry have developed a strong friendship over many years that eventually (finally) blossomed into a wonderful romance. If only Fry had realized his watch was running fast, he wouldn’t have jumped from the tower in the series finale. Leela would have arrived at dinner on time and promptly accepted his marriage proposal.

They probably would have continued to work for the Professor until he was gone and then potentially stayed on for Cubert, depending on the type of boss he ended up being. Fry and Leela likely would not have children and travel the world much like their life in the temporally frozen universe. They would stay together until their old age and maybe even end up on the Near-Death Star together in a simulation like the one the Professor built for his parents.

2 Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth would likely go back to the Near-Death Star & live out his days there with his parents

Professor Farnsworth behind the wheel in Futurama

Professor Farnsworth is a brilliant individual who also happens to be an incredibly stereotypical old person, making him one of the funniest characters in the show. However, he is well into his 160s at the end of the series, meaning his run is almost at its end. One day, he would likely go back to the Near-Death Star and live out his days there with his parents, or perhaps he would outright die before getting the chance.

Either way, he would more than likely leave his company to his heir and clone, Cubert. However, without Leela around to take control of the company when Cubert runs into the ground, it would likely change ownership a few years after the Professor was gone.

1 The Magnificent Bender Bending Rodriguez would live for centuries, maybe even millennia after all of his current meat bag friends had perished

Bender is one of those characters that fans either love or hate, and most tend to love him despite his many, many character flaws. Being a robot, he would live for centuries, maybe even millennia after all of his current meat bag friends had perished. After they were all gone, Bender would likely do one of two things. Insert himself in other groups until he found one he liked or go on a soul-searching mission around the cosmos.

Either option could make for a spectacular spin-off series that focuses on Bender and his new friends and/or new adventures. Though with Bender’s obnoxious personality, it would have to be a short-lived series, or there would have to be a new set of meat bags to level out his personality.
