Daryl Dixon is one of the main characters in The Walking Dead, and as such, he has taken out his fair share of zombies. Surprisingly, his kill count against humans is surprisingly low. He didn’t kill a single named person in Season 1 and rarely did in Season 2. He’s always been more about putting bolts into zombies’ heads instead.
That doesn’t mean he hasn’t taken out a named character or two, and for the sake of clutter, any moment where multiple people were taken out in the same sequence will get grouped as one. An example being the battles with The Governor, where he helps take down a few people alongside his fellow survivors.
10 The Zombies In The Greene Barn Were Taken Down In Quick Succession
Given that the zombies are all taken out in quick succession, the kill count gets lumped together. In “Pretty Much Dead Already,” Shane and the rest of the Atlanta survivors storm Hershel’s barn, taking out all of the zombies he’d been keeping alive in there.
It’s one of the few exciting scenes in Season 2 that lingered far too long on the barn. It also showed a nice difference between the Atlanta group who’d been surviving in the world and Hershel who’d holed up on the farm.
9 Daryl Puts Dale Out Of His Misery After A Walker Attack
Much of “Judge, Jury, Executioner” centered on Dale trying to convince the group that they shouldn’t kill Randall despite how dangerous he was. He fails in his endeavor, leading him to walk off from the group in dismay, going so far as to call the group broken.
Unfortunately for him, he’s the one who breaks. A walker ends up surprising him from behind, leading to it slowly pulling him apart. Out of mercy, Daryl is the one who kills Dale, putting a bullet through his head.
8 Eisenberg, Bob & Pete Were Taken Out During The First Clash With Woodbury
As with the zombies in Hershel’s barn, the Woodbury guards taken out in “Made to Suffer” were done quickly, and despite being named, none of them had a huge impact on the story.
Eisenberg, Bob, and Pete were generic guards that The Governor would remember by name in later episodes. They got taken out like fodder in the episode, Rick and company making an example out of them to show that they weren’t going to bow to Woodbury’s demands.
7 Daryl Had To Kill The Zombified Version Of His Own Brother
One of the more emotional moments in The Walking Dead came in the third season when Daryl was confronted with a zombified version of his brother. His reaction was raw, unable to find the power to kill the brother he’d only recently reconnected with.
He fought against doing the deed as much as he could but finally gave in, grabbing hold of an arrow and driving it into Merle’s skull. It was a moment that helped Daryl evolve so much as a character and still holds up 7 seasons later.
6 Greg, Patrick & Owen Were All Put Down After A Minor Zombie Outbreak In The Prison
During a zombie outbreak in the prison during Season 4, it was left to Daryl to deal with much of it. He managed to save multiple people from being bitten, putting down three separate zombified survivors.
The most notable of which was Patrick, who ended up sneaking into Greg’s cell and ripping his throat out, thus turning him into a zombie as well. The most heartfelt of the deaths may have been young Owen, whose mother was crying over his covered body near the end of the episode.
5 Daryl Shoots Mitch Dolgen Right In The Chest With An Arrow
Mitch Dolgen was in one of the militias that worked under The Governor and played an important role in the final assault on the prison. He drove the tank through the gates and destroyed a large chunk of the prison before Daryl took action.
First, Daryl disabled the tank by throwing a grenade into the gun barrel and then leveled his crossbow on Mitch. Mitch threw his hands up in surrender, but it didn’t matter. Daryl shot him right in the chest, killing him almost instantly.
4 Daryl Stomped Billy’s Head In Like He Was Michael Myers
Joe and The Claimers were dangerous foes in Season 4, and Daryl regretted his time with them immensely. Once Daryl realized they were targetting Rick’s group, he tried to convince them otherwise, earning him the ire of Joe.
Billy, one of The Claimers, started roughing up Daryl while Joe held Rick at gunpoint. It ended up being a major mistake as Daryl turned the tables on him, using Joe’s death as a distraction. He stomped down on Billy’s head so hard that he may as well have been Michael Myers from the newest Halloween movie.
3 Daryl Takes Vengeance For Beth’s Death & Shoots Dawn In The Head
Dawn was an effective villain in Season 5. She ran a group of cops who were trying to restore order but doing it with strongarmed tactics. She liked to pretend like she cared about people when all she really cared about was control. She struggled whenever things didn’t go as she expected; it’s evident when she smacks Beth and when she accidentally killed her later.
As the walls around her started to crumble, Daryl put a bullet in her head as revenge for taking Beth’s life, showing he was as vengeful as many others in the group.
2 Carla & Delly Were Put Down Moments After They Killed Tina
Carla and Delly were two characters killed by a forest fire started by Dwight earlier in the outbreak. Their bodies were covered in glass that had melted onto their bodies after the greenhouse burned down.
Little did Tina know that glass wouldn’t be enough to hold them. They broke through the layer that covered them and attacked Tina, killing her swiftly. Daryl was a few seconds too slow, getting to Tina after she’d already been bitten.
1 Tina Had To Be Put Down Before She Turned
After getting attacked by Carla and Delly, Tina had to be killed as well. After she bled to death in the arms of her sister Sherry, Daryl had to be the one who did the deed. After she laid to rest for good, they gave her a proper burial.
Her death, while having very little impact on the viewer, was important to both Dwight and Sherry as she was related to both, one by blood and the other marriage. Her death also got to show that Daryl is always willing to do what others can’t.
