Lois Lane is stuck between a rock and a hard place. In this CBR-exclusive clip from “Fail Safe,” the next episode of Superman & Lois, she finds herself confronted by her boss, Smallville Gazette editor-in-chief Chrissy Beppo. When push comes to shove, Chrissy gives Lois an ultimatum: tell the truth — or get out.
The clip opens at the Smallville Gazette, where Chrissy is frustrated by the Department of Defense’s refusal to issue a comment about Morgan Edge’s assault on the town. “Is it because we’re a small paper?” Chrissy asked, while Lois shifted her weight uncomfortably. “You always got a statement when you were at the Planet!”
“Chrissy, we don’t need the D.o.D. or my dad. We can do more interviews and write what we want,” Lois insisted.
“It just doesn’t make any sense,” Chrissy shot back. “Is this story different, somehow?”
“Not that I know of,” Lois replied noncommittally.
That gave Chrissy pause. “Lois, what is he hiding?” she asked. When Lois said she didn’t know, Chrissy took a couple steps towards her and followed up with, “Are you lying right now?”
“No,” Lois said softly, unable to meet her eyes.
“You’re totally lying,” Chrissy scoffed.
“Chrissy, it’s not what you think!” Lois cried.
“Lois Lane is protecting the D.o.D.,” Chrissy uttered in disbelief. “You’re supposed to be on the side of the people, not the man. I thought we were in this together. Lois, if you can’t tell me the truth, then maybe you should leave.” As Lois considered Chrissy’s ultimatum, the clip came to an end.
On Superman & Lois so far, Lois has worked with her father General Sam Lane and the Department of Defense to protect the citizens of Smallville, who came under siege by Morgan Edge and his Kryptonian minions. Soon, the Lane-Kent family learned Edge was no mere business mogul; he was, in fact, Superman’s long lost half-brother. As a result, Lois is incredibly close to the situation — which could be clouding her judgement when it comes to this particular piece.
According to the official description for “Fail Safe,”
Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) pays a visit to Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner). Meanwhile, Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Chrissy (guest star Sofia Hasmik) work together on a story. Lastly, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) finds a welcome distraction during a very stressful school day.
Superman & Lois airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
