While John Cena didn’t address the WWE Universe during Money in the Bank following his long-awaited return, the Superstar delivered a heartfelt promo once the cameras stopped rolling.
“As always, I wanted to thank all the WWE Superstars for putting their lives and their bodies on the line to entertain all of you, but most importantly, I missed you guys,” Cena said, receiving a thunderous round of applause from fans. “I really, really missed you guys, so as much as I’m thankful and grateful for them, man, I love you guys, and I really, really missed you, and thank you so much for being here. I’m thankful for me, I’m thankful for everybody in here.”
Cena’s surprise return came during the final moments of Money in the Bank, which saw the multi-time WWE Champion interrupt Roman Reigns’ celebration after retaining his WWE Universal Championship against Edge. While Cena’s intentions were left unclear, a subsequent tweet from Reigns seems to suggest a feud between the two A-listers is in the cards.
Prior to Money in the Bank, Cena’s last appearance on WWE programming was at WrestleMania 36 in 2020, where he lost to Bray Wyatt. After that, Cena took a leave of absence to film The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.
