Loki Director Wants More Judge Renslayer in Season 2 | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Loki Episode 6, “For All Time. Always,” streaming now on Disney+.

Season 1 of Loki introduced some intriguing new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Owen Wilson’s Mobius and a whole host of variants of Loki himself. However, there’s one newcomer that director Kate Herron doesn’t want to be overlooked: Judge Ravonna Renslayer, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Herron talked about her interest in Renslayer in an interview with Variety, saying, “I love her.” She also shared Mbatha-Raw’s impression of her character: “Gugu used to always call her an indoor girl, which made me laugh, but she is. She’s in the office, but she used to be this kick-ass Hunter. So I’m like, Okay, well, where’s her path going?”

The last that was seen of Renslayer in the season finale was her argument with Mobius, after which she made an exit through a time door, saying she was in search of free will. Given her high rank in the Time Variance Authority, her own secrets and manipulations throughout the season, and the reveal of her variant working as a school principal in Ohio, there’s much yet to be discovered about her character.

Herron will not return as director for Season 2 of Loki, so she’ll be watching future developments as a fan — albeit with some additional insight from her history with the show. She’s aware of all the possibilities that she helped set up, saying, “So I think there’s so many questions to be answered, and so much more road to travel with all our characters.”

Another character that Herron is curious about is Hunter B-15, the TVA employee played by Wunmi Musaku, whose restored memories of her previous life in Episode 4 sent her on an emotional change of heart. The scene didn’t reveal what B-15 found out about herself, which Herron said was deliberate. “It’s a character that thought they had power and realizes they have no power,” she said. “It felt really powerful to at least give her some power in that scenario. The memories are private. They’re hers.” Nevertheless, she can relate to the way the audience reacts to such a mystery: “Also as a fan, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, who is she?!'”

Although Loki‘s second season has been confirmed, there has not yet been any word on when it can be expected to air. Herron will have to wait to find out the answers to her questions along with the rest of the fans.
