Fear Street Part 3: 1666 – Pastor Miller’s Killings, Explained

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Fear Street Part 3: 1666, now streaming on Netflix.

To solve the mystery of the witch, Sarah Fier, Fear Street Part 3: 1666 goes back to Union, the Pilgrim settlement that eventually split to form Shadyside and Sunnyvale. The Puritan society is trying its best to till the land, with the teens — as hormone-driven as the modern chapters — seeking to entertain themselves with fireside raves, berries that get them high and, of course, sex. However, as secrets begin to spill out regarding the truth behind Sarah’s curse, audiences learn exactly how it led to the first murder in the settlement.

Deena, trapped in Sarah’s body, relives the witch’s memories and travels back in time to have a sexual encounter with Hannah Miller at the rave. Unfortunately, someone sees them, and info starts leaking out the next day about their lesbian romance, which is viewed as religious heresy.

Sadly, as rumors spread and accusations fly like wildfire, Hannah finds Sarah to let her know something’s wrong with her dad, Pastor Cyrus Miller. He’s essentially non-responsive and only repeats a prayer or something of the sort. With flies buzzing around him, it’s the franchise’s way of indicating he’s possessed, causing the girls to panic.

They got their berries the night before from the Widow Mary, a witch-like figure and town outcast. Sarah also read from a devil’s tome, so she’s wondering if she unleashed something. As expected, the town believes these gay teens invited Satan in, but there’s no proof. Unfortunately, as the girls try to figure out what’s going on to salvage their reputations, things go off the rails as animals die, crops rot and kids go missing.

Meanwhile, Cyrus locks himself in the church with the younglings, including Sarah’s brother, Henry, and Constance. Solomon Goode has made his way into town from his cottage and breaks through the barricaded doors, only to find a grisly sight. He’s asked his brother, Elijah, to hold off the mob, but as he stumbles in, rather than find a sermon for scared kids, he encounters eyes on the floor in a puddle of blood.

The possessed pastor has plucked the kids’ eyes out, as well as his own. Entranced, Cyrus tries to rush Sarah, but Solomon stabs him with a pitchfork, killing him. It crushes the town. Sarah never expected her lover’s dad to kill her own kin, which leads to a hall meeting to discern the truth about the demonic presence encroaching.

Sadly, they have no idea Solomon’s actually the puppet master. He killed Mary and stole the tome to bring prosperity to Union in exchange for blood sacrifices. Cyrus was merely his pawn, and the 12 kids were the first to bless the land. It was all driven by his personal tragedy of losing his wife and child. However, it’s all covered up, not by Solomon, but by the ignorant townsfolk. Caleb and Mad Thomas, toxic males who were rebuked by Sarah and Hannah in the previous days, lie and frame them as witches, allowing Solomon to start the sinister Goode empire using the blood of innocent children.
