Each new generation of Pokémon brings with it a slew of unique and bizarre monsters to be caught, trained, and battled. Since the original games and anime, fans have been introduced to Pokémon designed around a wide variety of themes. Some are as simple as real-life animals and mythological creatures, while others are as odd as Klefki, a living keychain, or Exeggcute, a group of angry eggs.
Some Pokémon are even based on more abstract ideas, like Machamp, whose entire evolutionary line seems to be inspired by bodybuilding, or Mr. Mime, who is clearly influenced by the art of miming. In fact, there is a broad array of Pokémon that are specifically designed around the concept of music.
10 Noivern Has Loudspeaker Ears
Noivern is one of many Pokémon that are based on bats, with its moves and overall design incorporating sound in some way. The top of its head is adorned with two large ears that are modeled after loudspeakers. Noivern’s ears are capable of emitting ultrasonic waves that can be used both for echolocation and combat.
In “An Electrifying Rage!,” Ash’s newly evolved Noivern is able to hold its own against the legendary Zapdos by hitting it with its Boomburst attack, which allows its user to unleash a powerful sound on its opponent.
9 Loudred Has A Powerful Voice
Similar to Noivern, Loudred’s ears are designed to look like speakers and are capable of amplifying its already powerful voice. With its stomach muscles, it is able to shout loudly, as its name implies. Loudred’s shout can cause destruction and mayhem, making it a tough adversary for any Pokémon.
In “Gone Corphishin’,” Jessie accidentally steps on a sleeping Loudred, which then angrily screeches so loudly that it sends Team Rocket blasting off. While it is not explicitly based around music, Loudred’s voice makes it worthy of being included here.
8 Jigglypuff Loves To Perform
First introduced in the anime episode, “The Song of Jigglypuff,” this Pokémon has been solidified within the franchise as one that thoroughly enjoys putting on a show. Within the episode’s storyline, the adorable Jigglypuff wants nothing more than to perform its song for people without them falling asleep.
Unfortunately, the Pokémon’s innate ability to make anyone who hears its singing drowsy makes that task impossible. Since that initial appearance, Jigglypuff has become widely known within the fandom for its signature lullaby and its passion for singing.
7 Primarina Is Known For Its Theatricality
Like Jigglypuff, Primarina is another Pokémon that loves performing. Known for its theatricality, it uses its voice as a weapon against opponents. In the anime episode, “A Fiery Training Camp Trick!,” the talented trainer, Lana, and her Primarina pull off Oceanic Operetta, the upgraded Z-Move of its signature attack, Sparkling Aria.
In both cases, the Pokémon throws its head back and sings a song that generates a giant bubble overhead, which then bursts and sends smaller bubbles hurtling towards its foe. With its love of singing, Primarina is certainly one of the most talented Pokémon.
6 Maractus Performs With Maracas
Maractus is designed first and foremost to look like a cactus, but it has a secondary inspiration. When Maractus dances, it emits a sound like maracas. This unique ability can be used in battle and to scare away wild Pokémon.
It made its debut in the anime episode, “A Maractus Musical!,” where a trainer named Toby and a trio of Maractus are preparing to enter the Pokémon Performance Competition. The three melodic Pokémon are having trouble working together in sync but are eventually able to pull off the performance.
5 Children Love Chatot’s Showmanship
One of the most obvious musical Pokémon, Chatot resembles a parrot with an eighth note as its head and a metronome on its tail. It has the unique ability to mimic human speech, as well as the cries of other Pokémon.
In its anime debut episode, “Strategy Tomorrow – Comedy Tonight!,” Chatot demonstrates its musical talent, as well as its desire to perform by putting on a show for children at a local hospital. Alongside its trainer, Ada, Chatot presents a rap and a comedy routine that they have been practicing.
4 Chimecho Heals With Its Soundwaves
Chimecho, as its name implies, is designed to look like a wind chime. This nocturnal Pokémon is able to emit powerful soundwaves from its body, which can be devastating to its opponents. However, it can also heal using soundwaves through its Heal Bell move.
Chimecho plays a small role in the anime’s Hoenn storyline, where it is revealed that James has always wanted one since he was a child. After befriending one in Fortree City, he finally fulfills his dream.
3 Toxtricity Attacks With Its Electric Guitar
At first glance, Toxtricity does not appear to be based around music, but its Gigantamax form wields a giant guitar crafted from pure electricity. It uses this guitar as a powerful weapon that causes massive damage to its enemies.
While Toxtricity has yet to make an appearance in the anime, its reputation as a music-themed Pokémon makes it a worthy addition to the roster. Whenever it does debut in the show, its arrival is sure to be energetic and memorable.
2 Rillaboom Brings The Beat To The Battle
As with Toxtricity, Rillaboom does not seem to fit in with the other musical Pokémon due to its appearance as a large gorilla. However, Rillaboom is known for carrying a drum made from a tree stump on its back which it pulls out during battle. This drum becomes even more powerful in its Gigantamax form, where Rillaboom can use the beat of the music to control the stump’s roots and attack its foes.
It has not made any significant appearances in the anime, only showing up in one episode in which Goh dreams that his parents are the drumming Pokémon.
1 Meloetta Can Dance & Sing
Meloetta is probably the most explicit music-based Pokémon, as its hair resembles music bars, its arms quarter notes, and it wears a headset for singing. Its signature move, Relic Song, can be used to swap between its singing Aria Forme and its dancing Pirouette Forme, where its hairstyle and color change from green to red.
In the anime, Meloetta has a major story arc, spanning multiple episodes, after Ash saves it and befriends it. He then helps protect the Pokémon from Team Rocket’s attempts to steal it.
