In its most recent update, Rockstar’s beloved 2018 title Red Dead Redemption 2 is adding a massive improvement to the performance of PC gameplay using NVIDIA DLSS technology. Additionally, Red Dead Online will receive the same upgrade.
According to NVIDIA, GeForce RTX PCs and laptops will be able to enjoy a 45% performance boost at 4K with this update, which is available now. The update uses DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) to smooth out the animation and image quality. More specifically, NVIDIA states that DLSS is “a groundbreaking AI rendering technology that increases graphics performance using dedicated Tensor Core AI processors on GeForce RTX GPUs, without compromising image quality.” Other highly successful games, such as Doom Eternal and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, have also received DLSS upgrades of their own.
To say that Red Dead Redemption 2 was well-received on launch would be an understatement: it received over 175 Game of the Year Awards and even more perfect ratings from reviewers. One commonly cited strength of the game is its beautiful open world, and this update caters directly to players who want to be even more immersed in the graphics. With the addition of NVIDIA DLSS technology, players can “crank up effects, or simply enjoy Red Dead Redemption 2’s captivating gameplay at faster frame rates.”
Furthermore, this coincides with the release of Read Dead Online: Blood Money, the latest update from Rockstar. With this update, players will “experience the darker side of frontier America with a series of all new, high-stakes robberies, shakedowns, and more lawless activities.” With the addition of the DLSS update, players will be able to experience this new installment in the critically-acclaimed world of Red Dead Redemption 2 with higher graphics than ever before.
In a promotional video released by NVIDIA, side-by-side gameplay is shown with and without the updated DLSS resolution and fidelity as a testament to the effect it will have for players. It goes on to explain that, while processing power depends on the GeForce RTX players are using, the NVIDIA DLSS update promises that “all GeForce RTX gamers can experience Red Dead Redemption 2’s incredible world with max settings at 1920×1080 at over 60 FPS,” with larger dimensions supported by heavier processors.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of nearly 60 games with NVIDIA DLSS compatibility available now, with “many more implementations waiting in the wings to be announced and released in the coming weeks and months” for GeForce RTX PCs and laptops.
