It’s Phantasy Star Online 2‘s ninth anniversary this month, and to celebrate, Sega has added the very first in-game event to PSO2: New Genesis, as well as a few contests. The game is still pretty new at just over a month old, so there isn’t as much content as the original — which makes this event an exciting addition. New Genesis has been a blast so far, and now is a great time to jump in to enjoy all the incentives and event content.
The latest game in the Phantasy Star franchise, New Genesis is a huge step forward not just for the series, but for MMOs in general. It has high end graphics, great gameplay, a story to follow and (best of all) it’s free with no pay-to-win elements.
On top of the regular login bonuses awarded daily and weekly, players will receive extra treats in the form of star gems, augment items, salon passes and revive items until August. Towards the end of the month, there will also be a campaign, an automatic event where players receive in-game items for meeting certain conditions, such as simply completing the game’s storyline so far. The anniversary site also has an event titled ARKS Investigative Report arriving later in the month.
As far as in-game things to do, the event features the first look at New Genesis‘ events NPC, ARKS Phenomenologist Xiandy. She has event quests for characters of all levels involving killing specially marked enemies, dread enemies and even urgent quest bosses. These enemies can be found just about anywhere at random and also reward the player with Seasonal Points, with the amount depending on difficulty. These points be used to buy items from Xiandy, which include a chat stamp, an accessory, new elemental weapons, star gems, high-level augments and materials. Just doing dailies and completing tasks for Xiandy will have players earning more than enough to power up their characters.
Outside of the game, there are currently three contests running related to the anniversary until August. One is a screenshot contest, where players can submit images via Twitter to be entered in a raffle to win salons and color passes, as well as star gems. There are also two drawing contests, one for a new chat stamp and another for a new in-game item or outfit. For this one, submissions are done through the official website. Plus, the winners will be able to see their artwork in-game.
