DC: 10 Villains That Would Make Great Hero Sidekicks | CBR

DC‘s villains are some of the most dangerous in comics. They run the gamut from all-powerful universe conquering titans to run-of-the-mill criminals with colorful gimmicks. One thing they all have in common is just how intimidating they are all regardless of how benign they seem. However, just because they’re known for being superlatively evil doesn’t mean that they’re beyond helping out their foes sometimes.

In fact, there are some villains who would make pretty good sidekicks for the heroes they fight, using their skills, powers, and experience to fight evil instead of cause it.

10 Lex Luthor Would Make A Better Sidekick Than Anyone Could Imagine

Thinking of Lex Luthor as a sidekick is just plain weird; he’s not exactly known for altruism. However, he has managed to work with the heroes in the past and if he thought that being a good guy would benefit him in some way, he wouldn’t hesitate to join them.

Lex Luthor as a sidekick would be a bit contentious but given a chance to prove that he was a better hero than Superman, he’d leap at the chance even if it was in a junior position to his foe. In fact, he’d be more liable to do it because he would get more chances to make himself look good at Superman’s expense.

9 General Zod And Superman Would Make An Unstoppable Team

Zod's Allies Superman DC Comics

Zod and Superman’s rivalry is storied but recently, Zod has decided that working with his old foe is better than otherwise. However, Zod does need help to learn the ropes of being a superhero and learning from Superman would be perfect. In fact, the only person Zod would probably listen to is Superman.

Zod and Superman would be an amazing team, as each is good where the other is weak. Zod could learn how to be a better person, with Superman learning more about his people and becoming a better fighter to boot.

8 Riddler Would Make A Great Sidekick For Batman

Riddler’s not exactly the most physical person but he has power where it counts- in his head. He’s managed to outsmart Batman on occasion, which is a pretty big deal. Unlike a lot of Batman villains, his personal mania isn’t as destructive- he just wants everyone to know how smart he is and to get some recognition.

A much better way to do this would be as a sidekick to Batman. While he may chafe at it after a while, it’s the perfect role for him. He can use his prodigious intelligence for good and get recognition from the people of the world who actually matter, rising higher and higher, proving just what he can do.

7 Icicle Could Learn The Ropes Of Being A Hero

Icicle DC Comics

Icicle was a member of the Injustice Society, using his ice powers to battle the JSA and took a bigger role in the villainous group. However, there was always something about him that always seemed like he wanted to be more than a villain and the best way to get a start at that would be as a sidekick to a hero. The JSA has a lot of great heroes he could choose from.

From Green Lantern to Flash to Mister Terrific, the JSA has some of the best teaching heroes around and Icicle could learn from any of them. He’s already great with his powers; he just needs someone to keep him on the straight and narrow and teach him what being a hero really means.

6 Ocean Master Could Be A Great Help To His Brother

Ocean Master and Aquaman have been bitter enemies for years; Ocean Master was upset about his brother taking the throne of Atlantis and the two have been fighting about it ever since. However, the two men have a lot in common power-wise and working together would be best for both of them. The ocean is a vast place and the more heroes it has the better.

While working with Aquaman might be tough for him at first, Ocean Master would make a great partner for his brother. They’re both skilled, strong fighters who could learn things from each other and keep Atlantis safe. Being a hero would do a lot for Ocean Master’s reputation in Atlantis and lead him to greater heights, something he’s always wanted.

5 Giganta And Wonder Woman Would Make A Devastating Team

Giganta has always been one of Wonder Woman’s toughest foes. Her ability to grow and get stronger has allowed her to be a thorn in the Amazon’s side and the fact that she’s potentially stronger than Wonder Woman makes her a great combatant. Working with Wonder Woman would not only be a better use for her abilities but let her shine in new ways.

Giganta and Wonder Woman would make a great team and working with Wonder Woman would give Giganta something she never had before- respect from those around her. Her growth powers would make her a great hero and learning from the best is always a good thing.

4 Sinestro Needs Someone To Keep Him Honest

Sinestro has done a lot of terrible things over the years and it’s easy to forget just what a great hero he was as a Green Lantern. Even his villainy has an almost noble cause behind it, as he believes that his way is the only way to ensure order. A better way, though, would be to return to the Corps and join up with someone like John Stewart or Kyle Raynor.

While Sinestro has worked with Hal Jordan in the past, there’ll always be a bit too much bad blood there. Raynor or Stewart are both people whose ability he would quickly come to respect, which is the key to working with Sinestro, and both of them are tough enough to keep him on message.

3 Captain Cold Would Make An Excellent Hero With The Right Mentor

The Rogues are a very different group of supervillains, men and women of honor who work well together and look out for each other. A big key to this is Captain Cold’s leadership. He’s tough enough to keep them together and skilled enough to stay the leader in a crowded and potentially combative field.

Captain Cold is almost like a hero version of a villain, someone who looks out for his friends and follows his own code. Joining up with one of the Flashes as a sidekick, whether it be Barry Allen or Wally West, could show him the rewards of being a hero and put him on a new path, where he would make an excellent hero.

2 Zoom Needs Someone To Show Him A Better Way

Zoom was Wally West’s version of the Reverse Flash- his villainous opposite. His powers were time-based, not Speed Force-based, and he seemed obsessed with making Wally and others better heroes better. His methods, however, were pretty much the opposite of helping. As a sidekick, he’d be able to have more of a positive impact.

Hunter Zolomon started life as an FBI agent, so going back to the side of angels wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for him and working with a hero could show him how far he fell. Working to make him something he hasn’t been in a long time- a hero.

1 Two-Face’s Final Redemption Needs A Push From A Mentor

Two-Face has almost reformed many times but it never takes. A reason for this could be that he never has anyone working with him. Two-Face needs boundaries and working with someone like Batman or even Nightwing could not just give him someone to help him stay on the straight and narrow but also help him learn the differences between being a hero and a villain.

Two-Face was once a great man in Gotham and could be again. He has all the skills and toughness he needs. He just needs help keeping it together and being a sidekick could give him that- allowing him to fulfill the promise of his past life.
