The Guardians of the Galaxy are one of the most important teams in the Marvel Universe, acting as a bulwark for the innocent of the universe against the worst threats. Consisting of some of the most powerful beings in space, the Guardians of the Galaxy have recently added villains like the Super Skrull and Doctor Doom to their roster, adding to the already impressive array of talent the team has.
Adding villains to a team is always a risky proposition but it also adds an interesting new element to things that can reinvigorate a team. There are plenty of villains who could join the Guardians and make things even more interesting.
10 Ultron Would Add A Lot Of Power To The Team
Ultron is known as one of the Avengers’ greatest foes but he’s also been out in space, which is how he would fit into the Guardians. One of the many versions of Ultron became the leader of the Phalanx, a group of techno-organic life forms that exist to assimilate other races. So, Ultron does have some experience in the greater cosmos.
Pitting him and the team against the Phalanx is a good option but in general, Ultron in the Guardians would add something interesting to the team. As powerful as he is, he’d also make a great boon to the team in battle, as well.
9 Terrax Is One Of Galactus’s Best Heralds
Galactus has had many heralds over the years and they’ve done a lot of terrible things but one of the worst of them is Terrax the Tamer. Beyond the Power Cosmic, Terrax is gifted with the ability to control rock, dirt, and minerals. He’s also fantastically strong and has fought off all kinds of powerful heroes in the past.
Terrax is a great but underused villain who would be perfect for the Guardians. He’s powerful and arrogant and would bring a lot of drama to the team, changing up the dynamic and making things more fun for the readers.
8 The Magus And The Guardians Have Fought Before
Teaming up heroes with villains they’ve fought is an old way of injecting drama into comics and the Guardians have a lot of cool villains to choose from. One of the best and most underrated of them is the Magus. The Magus is an evil alternate universe version of Adam Warlock, one who ended up conquering the universe he came from.
Teaming the Magus with the Guardians is rife with story potential. There’s bad blood between the team and the villain and forcing them to work together against a mutual threat has a lot of dramatic potential for the right creative team.
7 Nebula Has A Relationship With Members Of The Team
Nebula in the MCU and Nebula in the comics are very different; the comic one is more of a villain and is actually Thanos’s granddaughter. However, she’s no less deadly and still has a connection to the team. The galaxy famous space pirate would make a great addition to the team, one that could bring her closer to her fan-favorite MCU portrayal.
Nebula has the most potential to actually stay with the team and not just be a spoiler for a few story arcs. People like her a lot as well because of the MCU and her comic version could use a bit of polish.
6 Korvac’s Cosmic Power Could Add A Lot To The Team
Michael Korvac has battled the Avengers and the original far-future version of the Guardians of the Galaxy, using his vast cosmic might in rather terrible ways. Korvac hasn’t had too many meetings with the present version of the team but he would definitely add something to the team.
Korvac’s powers drove him a bit insane, which is actually putting it nicely. He’d be the ultimate wild card on the team, with none of them knowing if he was going to help them or kill him. His potentially disruptive element would give the team something they don’t have- an element of danger that it hasn’t had in a long time.
5 Ego The Living Planet Could Give The Team A New Base
Unlike the MCU, Ego doesn’t really have a relationship to the team but that doesn’t mean the living planet can’t be brought onto the team. While his combat options are limited, he can act as a base for the team, much like Danny the Street for the Doom Patrol. Ego would be better than any ship the team had; there are few foes powerful enough to phase an entire planet.
Ego’s vast telepathic power can also be a subplot, as he tries to take over the minds of the team and make them a part of him. That’s just one of several plots that could be introduced if Ego is brought onto the team.
4 Kang The Conqueror Could Bring A Lot To The Team
Kang the Conqueror is one of the Avengers’ greatest villains but he hasn’t gotten a lot of interesting stuff to do in recent years. In his future, he had conquered everything in his way, which is why he came back to the present. While he’s tested himself against the Avengers many times, he hasn’t tested himself against foes in space.
Joining the Guardians would give him a chance to do that, testing his weapons and tactics against the greatest threats in the universe. His arrogant and grandiose stylings would be a great addition to the team dynamic and it would let readers see a different side of him.
3 Galactus And The Guardians Would Be A Pretty Good Mix
Galactus is one of the most powerful beings in the universe and while he isn’t known for teaming up with the heroes, it isn’t unknown. He did join up with the Ultimates when his powers changed and he was known as the Lifebringer. However, seeing him on the Guardians as his regular self would be pretty intriguing.
There are many reasons for Galactus to join the team and playing him, a universal force of destruction, against a team whose entire MO is stopping universal forces of destruction would be pretty different and make for some new story options.
2 Annihilus Was The Threat That Brought The Guardians Together So Seeing Him On The Team Would Be Different
The present version of the Guardians of the Galaxy was brought together to battle the Annihilation Wave, which was led by the powerful Negative Zone tyrant, Annihilus. While the team has long since progressed past those roots it would still be interesting to put him on the team.
Annihilus is a ravening force of destruction, so whatever threat would make him team up with the Guardians would be one that could fuel several story arcs. Seeing how a creature like Annihilus mixes with the Guardians and how the dynamic would work on the team with that addition could make a very different book.
1 Thanos Is A No Brainer
Thanos and the Guardians have a lot of history with each other, just like any group of heroes who have plied the cosmos. Thanos is probably one of the most dangerous and powerful beings in the universe and actually works pretty well with heroes when he has to. Injecting him into the Guardians has all kinds of potential.
Thanos is a fan-favorite character who is as great a protagonist as he is an antagonist. Bouncing him off the members of the team like Gamora and Nova, with who he’s had dealings, and newer members, like Doom and Quasar, would be fun to read about and add something to the team.
