The Marvel Universe is a vast place with countless alien species and planets already mapped out by the heroes of Earth and beyond. The Guardians of the Galaxy protect known space from dangerous celestial threats, the X-Men are allies of the Shi’ar Empire, and the Avengers and Fantastic Four have been known to involve themselves in the affairs of the Kree and Skrulls.
Many of Marvel’s most popular and beloved heroes come from one of these planets. Others are artificial lifeforms that were built on Earth or on one of those alien planets. Nonhuman (not counting mutants, Inhumans, human/alien hybrids, or Atlanteans as they are Earth-born humans despite their powers) heroes abound, and many of them are fan-favorites.
10 America Chavez Is A Powerful Being And Last Survivor Of The Utopian Parallel
America Chavez, who sometimes goes by Miss America, comes from an alternate dimension called the Utopian Parallel- despite appearing human. However, the Utopian Parallel was destroyed by the Demiurge, a possible-future version of Billy Kaplan AKA Wiccan.
Despite this, America went onto become a Young Avenger alongside Wiccan, Hulkling, Marvel Boy, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Prodigy, and Kid Loki. Later, America joined Captain Marvel’s Ultimates team before landing on a West Coast Avengers lineup alongside Kate once again. America can fly, is incredibly strong and nigh-invulnerable, and she can punch star-shaped dimensional portals for instantaneous transport.
9 Adam Warlock Is An Artificial Man Created On Earth With A Grand Cosmic Purpose
Adam Warlock is an artificial being created by the Enclave, a super-secret scientist group originating on Earth. Despite these Earth-based origins, Warlock went onto have a grand cosmic destiny. He went onto become a cosmic hero and frequent friend and foe to the dreaded Thanos. Warlock was often armed with the Soul Infinity Stone and was instrumental in stopping Thanos during the Infinity Gauntlet crisis.
Warlock’s powers tend to vary. He is superhumanly strong and durable. He can consume energy without the need to eat, he can fly, and he has some degree of Cosmic Awareness. He seems to reincarnate every time he dies, and he can practice a form of cosmic magic. He has also some time as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
8 Groot Is A Flora Colossi From Planet X With A Big Wooden Heart
Groot is a Flora Colossi, a sort of moving, speaking, humanoid tree, originating from Planet X. Unlike many of his peers, Groot sought to be a kind being and befriended fauna whenever he could. During the campaign waged by Ultron and the Phalanx, Groot joined Star-Lord and the first (present) incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy to battle this threat.
Groot, despite seemingly dying and being reborn several times, has remained a regular member of the Guardians and has formed a tight bond with the being known as Rocket Raccoon.
7 Rocket Raccoon Is A Halfworld Mutated Cyborg With Big Guns And A Bad Attitude
Rocket Raccoon is a cyborg mutate originating from Halfworld. He started off as an ally of another mutate, a mole named Judson Jakes. However, Rocket eventually opposed Judson Jakes as the mole became more power-hungry.
Rocket turned more cynical and violent after leaving Halfworld, and he was eventually captured by the Kree. This led to him encountering Nova, Peter Quill, and the Guardians of the Galaxy during the Phalanx invasion headed by Ultron. This led Rocket Raccoon to become a Guardian of the Galaxy, and he’s been a team regular ever since.
6 Captain Mar-Vell Is A Kree Defector Dedicated To Protecting Earth From Threats
Mar-Vell was once a revered Kree warrior who was sent to spy on Earth. However, Mar-Vell grew to love humanity. Mar-Vell, known as Captain Marvel to the people of Earth. He was armed with the Nega-Bands, which gave Mar-Vell the ability to fly, shoot energy bursts, and ultimately granted him Cosmic Awareness.
Mar-Vell fought Thanos on many occasions, but it was cancer that killed him. He was exposed to hazardous radiation after an encounter with Nitro, the Exploding Man. The Kree offered him a cure, but he had to renounce and turn against the Earth. Mar-Vell rejected this offer and succumbed to his illness. He has had several successors, the most significant of which is Carol Danvers, the current Captain Marvel.
5 Gamora Is A Zen-Whoberi Cyborg And The Most Dangerous Woman In The Galaxy
Gamora is a Zen-Whoberi alien that actually originates from an alternate universe where the Universal Church of Truth, who worships Adam Warlock’s Magus persona. The Church destroyed Gamora’s species, making her an orphan and adrift in Universe-616 (the mainstream Marvel Universe). She was taken in by Thanos, who trained her and gave her cybernetic augmentation.
Gamora eventually abandoned Thanos’s mad quest, she later joined with Adam Warlock’s Infinity Watch. She later joined up with Star-Lord’s Guardians of the Galaxy and has been with the team consistently ever since.
4 Beta Ray Bill Is A Korbinite Champion With The Powers Of The Mighty Thor
Beta Ray Bill is a cybernetically-enhanced Korbinite who was tasked with protecting the species from Surtur the Fire Giant. He one day ran across Thor, and, thinking him a threat, beat him back and was able to lift Mjolnir. This led to Odin creating a mystical hammer for Beta Ray, the Stormbreaker.
This hammer gave Beta Ray Bill the powers of Thor, and he has been a close ally of both Thor and the Asgardians ever since. He has also worked with the space-based superhero teams the Annihilators and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Unfortunately, the Korbinites have been brought to the brink of extinction by Galactus in the time since.
3 The Vision Is An Earth-Born Synthezoid Who Wishes To Understand Humanity
The Vision is a Synthezoid created by Ultron using the body of the original Human Torch of the Invaders. He was created to kill the Avengers. However, he befriended the Avengers and became a regular on the team.
The Vision struck up a long-term relationship with fellow Avenger Scarlet Witch. However, he died during the Avengers Disassembled saga when Wanda had a mental breakdown. He was eventually rebuilt and restored by Iron Man and returned to his Avengers. He even built his own Synthezoid family, but they were wiped out except for his daughter, Vivian Vision.
2 The Silver Surfer Is A Powerful Herald Of Galactus Born On Far-Off Zenn-La
Norrin Radd lived on the far-off world of Zenn-La, and he was in love with the woman Shalla-Bal. However, doomsday arrived in the form of Galactus, Devourer of Worlds. To save his world and the woman he loved, Norrin offered to become Galactus’s new Herald and help the Devourer find new worlds to consume. Galactus agreed, and Norrin became the Silver Surfer. This new life gave Norrin the Power Cosmic.
The Silver Surfer tried to drive Galactus to uninhabited worlds, but this didn’t always work. However, the Silver Surfer turned against Galactus when they arrived on the densely-populated Earth, protected by the mighty Fantastic Four. Galactus released the Silver Surfer from his role. The Surfer was pivotal in stopping Thanos during the Infinity Gauntlet crisis. He also warred against Annihilus during the Annihilation Wave, and he helped defeat Knull, God of the Symbiotes, during his invasion of Earth.
1 Thor, God Of Thunder Is An Aesir Born On The Otherworldly Realm Of Asgard
The legend of Thor, God of Thunder, is well known by now. He is the son of Odin and destined to one day become the King of Asgard. Thor always had a fascination with humanity and often protected it from threats from across the Nine (now Ten) Realms. He was part of the founding team of Avengers that united to stop Loki, and he has been a regular on the Avengers ever since.
After the War of the Realms stoked by Malekith the Accursed, Odin has stepped down as King of Asgard, and Thor has ascended to the throne. In most recent stories, Thor has killed Galactus and stopped his own mad human alternate persona, Donald Blake, from wiping out Asgard.
