Star Wars: Seth Green Shares Todo 360’s Surprising Connection to Twilight

Seth Green, the versatile voice actor responsible for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Howard the Duck and Family Guy‘s Chris Griffin, opened up about the similarity between Todo 360, the droid he voices in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Jacob Black from The Twilight Saga film series.

Green commented on the parallel attitudes of his techno-service droid character and the werewolf Jacob Black when he sat down with Entertainment Weekly. When asked why the droid tolerates the abuse he suffers at the hands of his master, the merciless bounty hunter Cad Bane, Green responded, “It’s a little like imprinting on a baby or an animal. Wasn’t it the whole point of the sequel to Twilight is that Jacob imprinted on the kid, and none of their conflicts mattered anymore? That’s where Todo is coming from. I really think Todo is a lot more like Jacob than anybody gives him credit for.”

“Imprinting” is the process by which the shape-shifting entities depicted in Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight book series (as well as the film series based on her novels) establish a deep bond with another individual. It is described as an involuntary action in which the imprinter is drawn almost as if by gravity to the imprintee, resulting in a lifelong connection that matters more to the imprinter than all others. In Twilight‘s Breaking Dawn installment, Jacob imprints on Renesmee, the daughter of Edward and Bella. As Green was explaining why Todo 360 seems to have an unshakable need to serve and please Bane, the comparison appears to be an apt one. Despite the hardships constantly endured by the loyal droid, no amount of neglect or abuse seems capable of breaking its bond with Bane.

The Bad Batch, created by Dave Filoni for Disney+, is an animated sequel to Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It premiered in May 2021 and follows the exploits of Clone Force 99, an elite band of genetically mutated clone troopers who perform dangerous mercenary work in the wake of the Clone Wars. Cad Bane, who is often cited as the third most famous bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe behind the Fetts, Boba and Jango, hails from the planet of Duro. He made his first appearance in 2008’s animated series, The Clone Wars, becoming a fan favorite overnight as he offered his services to some of the series’ most notorious villains, including the Separatist Alliance and the Hutt family. Todo 360 has helped his cruel master with a number of daring missions, notably the theft of a holocron from the Jedi Temple, and the liberation of Ziro the Hutt.

Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Bad Batch stars Dee Bradley Baker, Andrew Kishino and Ming-Na Wen. New episodes premiere Fridays on Disney+.
